Yeah, play the big bash across a few weekends in November or Feb and play shield throughout the rest of the summer. It goes for way too long, at the worst time for the test team.

Give you a tip. All the brightest prospects hardly get a run in the shield these days. The gun shield players are Marcus Harris, Travis Head and Shaun Marsh, so what else are we supposed to pick from?

Cam Green and Will Pucovski definitely didn’t get picked on performances in a club standard hit and giggle comp

Smith, Labuschagne, Cummins & Hazlewood are the only players who are safe right now imo.

Keep playing Green as he has shown some nice signs. Keep Pucovski in until it's clear he needs to be dropped.

Keep Warner in for now. He is clearly playing hurt so he gets a pass this summer. Not enough other players knocking down the door for opening spot too.

The rest need a big spotlight on them. Same goes for the coaching staff.

Need to refresh the bowling line up in South Africa, think Lyon is finished and Starc should have been made a limited overs specialist ages ago.
The couple of spells Starc is actually on isn’t worth it for the complete shit he dishes up the rest of the time and Lyon has had a good career, played 100 games but he’s just not offered anything all year.
Maybe time to try Scwepson maybe, need to cut the delusion out Bowling attack is one of the best ever because it’s not even close.

Not a bad idea given if they qualify for test championship he’s the last bloke you’d pick in England as well so may as well give the next in line quick as go now

South Africa is the sort of place you'd play 4 quicks and no spinner if you're ever going to do it.

Warner was clearly still not fit this test so I'd still open with him against SA (the end is near though). Jhye and Swepson for Starc and Lyon, but the middle order is where it's very much up in the air. No one is banging down the door (the best performers in the Shield have been Henriques and McDermott) unless we go back to Head but, even then, he has to work on his technique. Roll the dice with Maxwell or Carey? Needless to say, our batting stocks are the barest I've seen in... probably since I started following cricket. If only Love was around now.

Jhye isnt durable enough yet to bowl 20 overs and Pattinson probably isnt either.

Neser really needs to be given a go they have had him in squads for long enough either pick him or get rid of him. Getting dropped might be the rocket Starc needs.

Our batting stocks are awful which is the only reason we havent put warner wade and head out to pasture yet.

It'd be nice if it was just in the school holidays, yet this year it started about 2 weeks before and ends 2 weeks after...

Pre Covid they never got decent crowds until early January and interest always died off by mid Jan. Ideally it starts Boxing Day and finishes Australia Day.

Last year was 10 times worse least this year they have put double headers on weekends. I’d like it condensed by a week though and the finals series goes too long

I think you make an excellent point about freshening up the attack. To me the four main bowlers are all extremely comfortable with their position in the team (some warranted) and in some cases comfortable with their careers. I just think some fresh blood for a series would help. It might be we end up back with the same four for the Ashes but I don't think it's a good thing to have your four main bowlers being automatic selections.

It could happen anyway with qurantine requirements, players won't want to do multiple qurantine stints but also not be away for months at a time.

Yep and Alex Carey or Glen Maxwell should be padding up instead of Matthew Wade in the test team without either of them scoring a single run in the shield this season

Not Aussie related but have any of the Ondoan bowlers (replacements bay &or ball) impressed you enough to suggest they could make way into a best XI when all Indians are available?

I really like the fight of Shardul but they become a bit over reliant on all rounders if you were to pick Jadeja &/or Shardul, but unsure if you can fit them both into the XI.

Mitchell Starc has played multiple innings that were better than Shardul's. He has a 99 in India. He's not an allrounder.

Is there any precedent for playing an inferior bowler (read: Starc) against the weaker sides (WI/SL/Pak) and keeping an out and out pro fresh for the stronger teams?

The guy's stats are heavily skewed toward minnows and D/N games it's ridiculous.
