Depends what type of all rounder we want him to be and what he can deliver. Sobers and Kallis averaged 50 with the bat and in the 30's with the ball at number 5 and number 4.
At 6 you either have the batsman who average in the 40's with the bat and 30's or 40's or more with the ball, or the Botham, Imran Khan all rounder types who can average 30's with the bat and 20's with the ball.
It's early days yet, but I see Cameron as more a 40 with the bat and 30's or 40's or more with the ball type all rounder.

I think 5 would be a good spot for him. Hopefully it also removes the thinking he is an allrounder. He can bowl ok but he is clearly a batsmen foremost.
Are people still talking about Wade. I suppose Finch gets to drag the Aussie team down for a few years yet. He's no less a liability than Burns was in the test side, and if it wasn't for him being captain, he would be asked to find form like anyone else in domestic cricket.

Can we just call him a batter that bowls a bit when necessary? He doesn't particularly need to bowl any more than a Michael Clarke or Mark Waugh to be useful with the ball.

he’s remodelled his action and trying get his rhythm back
where he’s been able to work on his batting for a couple of years - his bowling has barely had a handful of months with a new action
regardless - he does appear talented enough to bat too 6 even if he can’t bowl at all
I just think it’s way to premature to dismiss his bowling - when it’s been his strong suit for most of his life
I think you misunderstood my post. I am not dismissing his bowling. I am simply saying his batting talent I value more and is more important.

He is absolutely more than a part timer, he’s a genuine bowler, it’s just his batting appears even better.
I agree with that, but I guess my point is that if he reduced his bowling, perhaps his batting goes to Steve Smith levels instead of Shane Watson.
Not test match XI per se, but why are selectors so eager to dump young talent and not persist.
Always thought Handscomb could bat, same with Renshaw. Harris isn’t going to be the future nor will Burns.

Shane Watson at his absolute best averaged 45-50 over a three year period. His bowling was a useful bonus during that time.
He probably spent 2-3 years in the team after his prime where he barely warranted his spot in the side. Both his batting and bowling declined significantly in this period.
He was always more a batsman than a bowler. Statistically his stats stack up very well - better batting and bowling averages than Flintoff. The problem was his best was brilliant, worst terrible and was wrecked by injuries. Freddy was exactly the same except clearly more or a bowler.

I'm of the opinion that Watson was a better bowler than batsman. His body didn't allow for him to show it, obviously - and his stats will never be able to reflect this statement/opinion.
What struck me was how clever he was with the ball. When his pace dropped he really became a valuable bowler with swing, seam and nagging lengths.
I'm probably primarily referring to red ball cricket here, as obviously his white ball batsmanship ended up thriving.

Having Green bowl gives us the flexibility to fill in if one of the pace bowlers is having a pig of a day, take some of the load if the opposition bats for two days, or play two spinners if conditions warrant. Assuming we have two spinners that deserve to be picked.

2 pace bowlers plus 2 spinners plus Green on a wicket that looks like a spinners wicket.Similar a wicket for the fast bowlers,1 spin,3 pace plus Green I like.So that means a wk plus means 5 other batsman to make the ideal team.Leave that open to debate,lol.
