I'm an absolute sucker for monthly/yearly subscriptions ever since I started working full time. At the moment I have Netflix and Stan for TV/movies, Kayo for sports, Spotify for music; I have BigFooty premium and I pay for Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop.

Are they a scam? Is it a waste of money? Or are they just super convenient?

I think it fast becoming the norm.
I just paid for Ancestry.com annual fees, I also have Netflix & BF Premium.
In ten years time we will be paying for AFL on TV if not before.

I refuse to get an online news subscription. You will have to pry the hard copy of the (Sunday in particular) newspaper from my cold dead hand, before i do that.
Glad it's not just me. Sure online ones would be cheaper and more economically friendly, but it's a tradition I cherish and will cling onto. I'm similar to my dad (who is similarly possessive over his morning newspaper ritual) in that regard :)(

I get Mon - Fri at school free during the term.

But yeah Sundays is a must. I've been known to drive from milk bar to service station until I find one when they're sold out. Will be a sad day when they're gone, and they will be.

Yep that's the one

Probably one of my earliest memories of really appreciating the reading experience

I feel like going out and buying an Age now :p

Yeah same, i still remember two articles I read from it- one womans account of a rape that happened to her on Melbourne Cup day back in the 80s (most harrowing thing ive ever read) and another about the difference between panicking v going into shock, and documented cases like Jana Novotna at Wimbledon and JFK Jnr and how he died in the plane crash. Very interesting reads.

I just ran to the newsagency, apparently there's no Good Weekend issue for a couple weeks :(

Maybe, Im not sure.
My genealogy program Family Tree Maker 2011 Deluxe is required anyway. (1498 persons in this)
It once linked with Ancestry; but alas, they put out newer versions to press you into upgrading but they can GAGF.

Netflix, Spotify, BangBros, Brazzers, Stan.

Snickers at the pr0n references!!

I subscribed to the WWE Network for a few months last year. I watched a lit of the classic content... but I unsubscribed when I was really just watching WM 15 and SummerSlam 2002 over and over again.

I'm not sold on streaming sites. Still very much a buy the dvd and rip it myself person. I can make my own "digital" copy. When they phase out dvd burners I may have to sort out an alternative.

I subscribed to one of those newspaper deals once where it was $5 for three months or something and boy do they make it difficult to unsubscribe.

Had to call them up and they basically interrogated me for about 10 minutes about my life choices before finally relenting. Took me weeks to recover from that encounter

Yeah I'm a hunter for cheap introductory offers and you are right - the cancellation process can be a bit of a rigmarole. I've done it so many times now I'm pretty used to it.

The Times UK was easily the worst and I thought that was pretty shitty given their reader base is generally geared towards the older generation who would not be comfortable with such tactics.

share a Foxtel now connection with a mate for sports, have got a Spotify family subscription for me and my kids, and my GF and her kid. GF and me share a Netflix account, and I also have a lifetime Plex Pass

Part of their effectiveness comes from the fact you don’t even hear from them and you can forget about them but the charges just go through automatically.

Not complaining with that

Netflix, Fetch, Spotify, VPN, Usenet, Private Usenet, PC subs, HeraldSun, NBA

Some of us already are, but that's from living OS but it's definitely the future for all. I pay $150 and can watch every game live, replays and all the shows on Fox Footy from 16,000kms away. It's a sweet deal.

Only other online sub I pay fro is Icloud but I felt I was cornered into that.

Have Netflix, Spotify, Amazon Prime Video and AppleTV but I dont pay for them. The only one I would pay for if I had to would be Netflix, great variety for price. I also have an ITV box which has no sub cost but haven't been using it much lately as it can be flakey.

I refuse to subscribe to Adobe since they don't offer license purchases anymore. Checking out the new version of Da Vinci Resolve which may do what I need.

Movies - there's a bunch of Russian sites you can stream stuff from. Music - pretty much all on youtube.

No way I'm paying a site for general news as it's not worth it.

Foxtel, Netflix, Spotify here

Used to get NFL gamepass until it quadrupled in price.

I don't pay for BF premium - I win it
