Hey people,

I was just after some advice regarding opening up an online account with the TAB.

I really have no idea how it works, and would like to know a few things in particular.

- Joining Fee?
- Minimum for opening account
- When/how can you withdraw winnings

- any other related issues.

Any responses are much appreciated

No joining fee but you will need $20 to start up an account.
You can withdraw anytime the TAB is open by going in there, you can use a card to put funds in, taking them out tho is about a 24 hour wait.

thanks

so its really just a convenience thing - being able to bet at home on your computer?

oh also, i noticed you need a credit card.
does a debit bank card work? from what i understand, these are just the same as a savings card, but can be used for this sort of thing.

thanks

Definitely can use the "debit" credit cards that some banks are offering now

TAB does charge 3.3% for credit card deposits so would probably only make the minimum deposit initially and then look at another option like BPay or direct transfer (which have no surcharge) if you can't put the funds in at an outlet

You dont need a credit card thats only if you wish to deposit money into the account over the internet.

Basically you just go into the tab and put money into your account

and you can bet over the net

I have a home account .... i reckon there good and convenient

I have a TAB account, IAS, Sportingbet and signed up with bookies online the other day. I use them all.

I love the tab for my multi's, can be a quick return on a sat'day and its the best when people owe me money "throw it in my account heres my number".

when you deposit cash ino your account at the tab, do you need a tab card (or something similar), or can you just tell them your account number and do it that way?

trying to settle an arguement with the missus.

You could probably get away with just an account number. I'll try it tomorow and see what happens.

can you open an account, without a credit or debit card?
i was hoping to just get an account, make deposits/withdrawals at the outlets, and just be able to bet at home.

No card needed, you just tell them your account number and pin and its fine, I get all my friends to pay me back this way.

You do need a card to take it out tho.

You only need 100 points of ID & $20 to start an account, you will need a card to take your winnings out tho.

thanks guys.

how do you get one of these cards?

Once you sign up for an online account thru the TAB website you can bet as much as you like, but will be unable to withdraw any of your winnings until you take 100+ points of ID into a TAB outlet for them to witness. After this has been approved and sent off you will receive your TAB Card in the mail that you can take into the outlets to deposit or withdraw money with. Hope this makes sense?

thanks guys.

how do you get one of these cards?

when you fill in the form etc and they check your id, the send it away to tab and you will receive the card back in a fortnight or so. i opened an account caulfield guineas day and got my card thursday just gone...

i find having an online account much better than having to get to the TAB to put bets on as well as collect winning (thats when i do win).

Sorry I didn't have a chance to step in and stop you whattagun. For betting at the TAB outlets, fair enough, because they have a monopoly on that and it might be more convenient for some to place bets there. But when you have so much choice in terms of online accounts available, why you'd waste your time with the TAB's pathetic odds is beyond me.

You should have went with Betfair, or to a lesser extent IAS.

Ah thats alrite, i dont have a credit card, and im assuming you need one for betfair.

Anyway, today i got an account with the tab and this is wat happened
- ID check (100points - I just took birth certificate and drivers license)
- $10 min deposit
- They give you a card with account number, and a withdraw/deposit card
- Came home and rang customer service to activate the online account, allowing me to place bets online. If you dont do this, you can still place bets over the phone.
- Place bets!

Question plse: Just veering off this subject abit. In NZ TAB website all races are broadcast 'live time' as they race. Is there any other sites here that have that option. ??

AUstar freaked out the other day (rain storm) and affected the broadcast of some races while i had already layed bets on - It happened in NZ the odd time also but I just went to the tab website and was listening to the races till pictures came back up on paytv - could'nt do that here as I'm not that 'savvy' yet here. Appreciate any help.

cheers

betfair is really confusing me

the underdogs pay way less than on TAB, but the favourites pay slightly more than the TAB.
is that the gist of betfair?

Interesting you say that, thats not my experience.
Is this based on a few days/weeks/months viewing?
Which meetings?

Obviously the tab pools are massive, especially this time of year which will often mean the roughies are massive on the tote.
I guess the main difference for me is the certainty of price @ betfair

seth
