nice part of the world athelstone- I am offended you are on our board and demand to pop over for dinner and a few drinks...can't be that many Brenton Davy's there

I can handle that.

Never knock back a bevy or two.

And yes, it's a very nice part of town.

I must have spat abuse towards at least half of our own players yesterday (from my lounge room).... It will just be a matter of time until I'm off to the gulag :(

There will always be these people. That's the world. IMO there are more good than bad and that's who I choose to deal with. My attitude (and what I have taught my kids and grandkids) is anyone with that attitude or hate or anger has the problem, not you. Family matters, not on line faceless people

Social media

Pros: It provides a platform for everyone's voice to be heard.

Cons: It provides a platform for everyone's voice to be heard.
Yep that’s it mate, every idiot gets a chance to spew hate.

Also can be a great tool for raising awareness on idiots spewing hate.

Social media is sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit

Got tagged in the post by a 15 yro friend who is a Hawks supporter. Both her and I were horrified at the post.

Don’t understand the motivation to put this out into the world. Even less understanding of those bringing further attention to it in the media.

Isn't it somewhat clear than when one has to 'hate' on others, it's because they actually 'hate' themselves?
If those being 'hated' upon have sympathy for the 'haters' who would that make the people feel?

Adding hate upon hate doesn't serve a purpose. Put out an arm to those that have the urge to express themselves in the most undignified of fashions instead of calling them out as trolls, haters, animals etc. You won't net them all, but you will change more than to feed to what they're asking of you.

I'm not sure what happened here but it's a good rule of thumb for our board as well. Abuse, bullying towards each other ... sure that's an easy one to handle.

We also have a rule about abuse towards players and club personnel. Some don't like these rules. We make no apologies for enforcing them.

Be constructive in your criticism. Use examples. Don't post if you can't handle your emotions.

Again, I have no idea what this instance was about but we all have a duty of care towards each other and our team.
Having read the original comment, it was extremely poor. Making reference as it did to a players cancer battle in a way that really has no place.

It was a shit comment by whoever made it. Furthermore, the media need to have a good hard look at themselves for giving this crap mass audience oxygen. They play the man for living, and did so again by airing it.
no shit ever got sorted by covering it up

Wouldn't watch mixed martial arts or boxing just because they're currently accepted in society.
Will be looked back on as a primitive pass time for primitive people.

Not trying to make this about me, but we'd make for a better society without legalised brutality.
That's not to say it should be banned, but all being well, we learn to live without such activities and for it to be seen some time in the future as something our great great great great etc grandparents used to do.

Go work in security for a few years and then you'll soon realise that some mutts need to be dealt with violently to end their threat.

It's taught 7/10 people want no conflict or violence, 2/10 will resort to violence if not dealt with in a reasonable or fair way.

Then there's the 1/10 that no matter what anyone does want violent conflict.

To suggest violent force should not be used to end that 1/10 threat is naive.

Forget online...in full earshot of families, kids all and sundry, a mouth breather called out 'run you little n****r' when Samo had the ball on Sunday...I'm not proud of my immediate threat to throat punch him, but it achieved the desired outcome.

Absolutely jarring. Marred an otherwise great family atmosphere.

He did come over and apologise the group of seven guys I was with, which at very least, showed some contrition.

Did he yell the n-word?

Its apparent that a vast majority of those who saw the post rightfully expressed their disgust towards the author. That should be enough to send a clear message that what was said is socially unacceptable. The reaction has since been way out of proportion; aired on TV and other mainstream media. Public shaming to that extent can often be much more damaging, with longer lasting ramifications, than the initial comment itself.

I had a guy come up to me one night, got in my face and said to punch him because he felt like going to jail. Sometimes there are just situations where you need to be ready to throwdown because they're coming whether you like it or not.

Isn't it obvious that this type of behaviour is not condoned, foul and has no place in society. Surely, it's obvious.

Perhaps if these fools actions didn't get front page news it would deter anyone from doing this crap in future. Now arseh*le attention whores know if they post this rubbish, they'll get noticed.

Not sure how highlighting it every time, especially when posted on obscure sites helps anything or anyone.

Unfortunately yes.

Thinking otherwise is total nativity.

There is and always has been a good percentage of the population who are rubbish/horrible/pig-ignorant people. Now, thanks to the wonders of social media, we get to hear from them and they can even get together and form clubs/groups/political parties.

Just the other day at my son's U12 game I was goal-umpiring at the "far end" and a lone parent from the opposition club was yelling over the fence, telling one of his son's teammates to "stop playing like a p***y". People who suck are everywhere. They may even be your neighbour or someone close to you. If he says that to 11 year old kids within earshot of other parents, what do you reckon he'd say anonymously on the internet?
