Just got home from the footy, and saw an impressive four quarter performance from Richmond. I got the feeling at half time, that Carlton could still break the game open in a 10 minute burst, but thankfully, Richmond didn't allow it. It was a tight, tough game, and Richmond's desperation was rewarded with a well-deserved win.

One thing I have realised, is that with all the promising players at Tigerland (Ottens, Tivedale, Caffey, etc who all had great games), Joel Bowden is your best, and most important player. More important than Richardson, or Ottens. Bowden leads the Herald-Sun rankings points for Tigers players, and his long kicking, ability to find space and general class, put him at the top of the tree of all the Tigers players.

Great gesture from all the Tigers players at the end of the game too towards Silvagni.

I change my mind each week on my opinion of the ladder at the end of season. And today Richmond showed me that they can really play football. I reckon we're gonna have 4 points between 6th-11th at the end of year. Be set for the tightest finish to an AFL season ever.

Well I'm not going to be nice about it - Richmond didn't play THAT well, it's just that we were ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING.
Maybe the win against West Coast last week (and let's face it, it's not that hard to beat the eagles at the moment), gave us just a little too much confidence.

What a pathetic game. The only highlite from the Blues was Bradley's 70m bomb, and Whitnall's goal in the 3rd (I think).

Must admit though the Tigers players should be commended for forming that little walk way for silvagni - very good sportsmanship.

And one other thing that SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT IS.................. Fevola's kicking. For God's sake... PRACTISE BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bowden is a very important player but does have the ability to go missing at times, and other times just belt the ball long without direction.

For a similar reason to the way you rate Bowden, I feel that Tivendale is often our most damaging player as those left foot kicks are extremely damaging and were used to cut Carlton to ribbons.

Yes, Tivendale reminds me of what Stuart Maxfield was to you guys six years ago.

Because Bowden is leading your "rankings" points in the Herald-Sun he surely can't have gone missing that much. You would have seen more him than me, but I really rate the guy. I seriously would put him as the best of all your 42 players.

He has got the commodity that a lot of very good players have - time. And most importantly, he has a football brain. Some of your players often don't take thr right option. Bowden always takes the right option, is a beautiful kick, and wins a lot of the ball

How many possessions does he average per game?

Dannys Day

Goodluck to Danny Frawley...;)

Hes been through hell since Essendon and Adelaide wiped the floor with Richmond

As for the Blues?

A win for SOS was about as worthy as he was in being named Fullback of the Century.

David Dench is still spewin'

And er Go Crows:eek:

Re: Meg's comments

It seems that you, Meg, are a sore loser.... Your comment that Richmond did not play all that well, is simply as a result of your one 'eyed' Carlton point of view. If you had any idea about footy, you would appreciate a good game. Richmond played four very good quarters. The fact is that you are not as strong a team as you would like to believe. Otherwise, you would have done it for SOS....

For mine it was a true mark of respect that the opposition team paid to a champion. I daresay it's happened before, but it's the first time I can remember seeing it at the end of a game. I tipped the Blues, but the Tigers were much more desperate for the ball. Fully deserved the win.

Yeah, its the first time i remember seeing it at the end of a game. Last year Essendon formed a guard of honour for Paul Salmon before the Essendon/Hawthorn match.

It's something (guard of honour) you would rarely see at the end of a match as the losing team would be too busy drowning in their sorrows.

I wonder if Richmond would have done it if they lost? Frawley was saying that it was a pre-organised thing, but i'm not too sure. It's easier to show sportsmanship when you win. :D

No, Tigress, I'm not a sore loser. The Blues played crap today, I admit it... I'm over it. It is MY opinion that the Tigers didn't play well. The Tigers played BETTER than Carlton today, but certainly did not play very well.
I might be one-eyed but big deal. Who isn't?
Don't assume that I don't know anything about football just because I am one eyed. That in itself is a ridiculous statement.
And your little statement about us not being a strong team, otherwise they would have done it for SOS....... Richmond has been on the verge of being in the 8 at the end of the season quite a lot...... and so maybe your team should take some of your advice - if Richmond was a 'strong' team they would have made the 8 more often. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Re: Meg

Meg, at no stage did I state the the Tigers are a strong team.
They definitely have what it takes to be a strong team, but (for Tiger's supporters) it unfortunately hasn't happened yet.
My point to you was simply this: a good game is a good game regardless of who played. The Tig's played well. Carlton played average. That's the way it goes for most teams as one stage or another (except of course for the Bombers who are a very good team). I, unlike you, can admit when another team does well. I went to the North v Blues game the other week and I can admit that in the last quarter the Blues played a fantastic game, they were trailing for most of the game, yet they came out on top. The atmosphere was fantastic. Just because I can admit that a rival team played well, does not mean that I am any less a true Richmond supporter.

I would guess at between 20 - 25 possesions per game with a high percentage of those being kicks. This average would be brought down in the games such as against Geelong the other week when he managed something like 5 possesions for the whole game.

I also don't think he is as incisive with his kicking as Tivendale -
If he could continually nail forwards with 60m low trajectory rockets he would be devastating.

He probably has more strength which enables him to break more tackles and moves OK but would not have anywhere the leg speed that Tivendale posesses.

He does have a better football brain and can usually work out the best time to deliver a pass to a forwards - something that Tivendale does wrong is get so carried away with running fast that he puts his forwards out of position. When Tiva just bursts for 10-15 metres then lets fly with a rocket is when he is most effective!

**************

Meg, Carlton didn't play well because simply enough Richmond didn't let them. In much the same manner as when Carlton beat Essendon earlier on this year, Richmond won because they planned for the game better than Carlton. All the matchups worked in our favour and we did not have to implement any contigencies.

We had Royce Vardy on the bench as a spare tall defender and I don't think he even got a run, such was the domination of our defensive talls.

Carlton turned the ball over frequently which was a direct result of the pressure that was applied - Richmond also turned the ball over but seemingly not as frequently as Carlton.

I'm sorry Tigress....you deserved to win no doubt (as Robert Walls would say) but that was a terrible game. The skills were appalling, as was the constant flooding of both sides. Sorry, but that game was a shocker. Richmond were clearly the better side though.

That 'otherwise you would have done it for SOS' call makes no sense. You don't become a bad team because you lost a milestone game.
