And they are. A little joke or two here and there ≠ disrespect.

Again, I implore everyone to go and listen to Neroli Meadows and Melinda Farrell discuss it.

It's only a joke if the journalist is in on it. If it offends her, upsets her or angers her, it's completely unacceptable for him to try and maintain that it's a joke.

I wish they'd stop interviewing the players completely.

totally agree, I think it's awkward interviewing them after they get out, more so when they get an ordinary decision against them from the umpires. It's almost like they want to get an adverse response from the player.

What did Mel say to you when you spoke last night?

You really are completely incapable of empathy, of an adult discussion, and of trying to defend your 1950s views aren't you?

Still, he's (bravo) trying to compliment her... something that I believe Gayle was only trying to do, but it's been taken completely the wrong way cause it was done directly, instead of indirectly.

Huh?

He complimented her on her appearance and immediately asked her for a drink after the game, (doesn't take a genius to figure out what that implies).

He was complimenting her for the direct purpose of getting in her pants = sexual harassment in the workplace

Yes I am completely emotionless and a kid born in the late 1940s.

Now that that's out of the way, what are Mel's thoughts on what Chris Gayle said? :)

If 20/20 cricket was just the cricket, I'd probably watch it fairly often.

But it is all the hype that goes with it that just turns me off the whole concept.

Including shoving a microphone in the face of a player who has just been dismissed.

What the hell is wrong with that bloke? He has 50,000 posts and 10 years of pushing his agenda... on an Australian forum for a niche game of football?

Please explain.

edit: just saw he literally responded in the next post..

Channel 10 were more than happy to profit off him as a major attraction up til now. What changed? o_O

Channel 10 are pretty implicit in all of this

I think if he hadn't said "don't blush, baby", this wouldn't have got more than a video at the bottom of tabloid websites. Just went that little bit too far joking around.

Still, no need for the moral outrage from the pc police, must be exhausting for feminists and sjws being outraged all the time. First of several yearly feminist shitstorms and its exactly the same everytime.

Thought ch.10 would be in for a lot more heat than they have come under so far, their two faced coverup was a fair botch job.

Well, duh. We found out more about his character than we did his desires.
Maybe you did, but I didn't. I already knew what he was like.
Why do people like you find it so hard to understand that a female can work in cricket? They are not "sent to fawn over him", they are sent to do a job, and the deserve to be respected by players as they do it.
You are very naive about sports coverage and journalism in general.

Kate Fitzpatrick Imran
Roz Kelly Morne Morkel
Greg Blewitt and another journo...

and there was a captain in the 90s (not 100% sure if he was a captain at the time), who did a Buddy Franklin half century on a tour of the Caribbean. *I think my mail is ok on this.

Chris Gayle would be like Buddy Franklin and his Jamaican appetite, and the partners willingly indulge him.

this is the context. not this backlash feminism context. why not "go" Mark Latham in canberra with Kate Ellis... but the Canberra press corps hide the peccadilloes of the super pols. then there is Julia Morris when she had a tv show and said something about Wayne Carey when he had the court troubles over groping a woman at a nightclub and Morris suggested he try it on her instead. *coulda been more to duck's story.

Sport is a hypersexualised environment, and to only blame the sportsmen misses the context entirely. Feminism will never solve this dating routine and star-fukcers neither, on both sides of the divide. men or women. Actually, a comedian Mike Daisey put this best when he was talking about Paris Hilton having sex, and what is going thru PAris Hilton's head when she has sex. The line was something like, "Paris Hilton has sex and her brain is thinking 'I am Paris Hilton' "... so point is, Paris is effectively engaging in a female version of onanism and instead of seed she has eggs n ovaries.

Chris Gayle brings a Caribbean/Jamaican sensibility to this dynamic, and is overtly flirting with the host Mel McLaughlin, no doubt there is more on his mind than just subtext...

And Mark Howie Howe, when he was a boundary rider for Channel 7 about a decade ago, when the Czech supermodel Karlonina K (Karolina Kurkova) was doing some promotion, she was at a footy game, prolly Collingwood, doing promo shots with a jumper on, coulda been something from Emirates (it coulda been Carmen Kass the Estonian supermodel)... Howie when it was not official interview, the commentary box had footage of him getting far too close to the model and doing some too close close-talking, like Hamish McLachlan type close-talking of the opposite sex, the other person's space...) soo, just saying, hypocrisy here from the host Mark Howard...

I like how feminism 4.0 has sought to put Gayle in the docks without any context... Gayle has no idea what he has done wrong. But p'raps, looking at the situation, what he did was not outrageous, and his conception of his own innocence is perfectly understandable. That those who wish to put him up against a wall and give him a hundred lashes, are ignorant of Gayle's situation. Am I ignorant of Melanie McLaughlin's situation? yes, partly I am (ignorant this is). I remember last year when Fitzy and Wippa were flirting with her, she shut them down. I also know her role is also to play as the cute host. Who was the Channel 7 female football comentator who has gone on to ABC, Kelly someone? Channel 9 sacked her, or Channel 7, she got no support from the producers and bean counters. She was not the "cute host"type tho. There are definitely two standards, I am not suggesting otherwise...

Now that that's out of the way, what are Mel's thoughts on what Chris Gayle said? :)

From the Newscorp media today:

"Channel 10 Head of Sport David Barham, at home watching the match on television, said McLaughlin was angered by the experience.

“Mel was good. I spoke to her immediately afterwards. I rang her and she was on the ground ... she was a bit angry and upset I suppose,” Barham told 3AW today.

“She was asking him legitimate questions about cricket and he turned it into talking about her eyes. She was a bit taken aback ... embarrassed."

“She was angry and she was upset. She was doing her best to get an insightful interview about the cricket. That’s what her job is and she works really hard at it. She’s really well prepared. I think she was very surprised.”

I would argue that you're completely naive about the times that we live in now.

That people on this board seem to be suggesting that someone is unqualified because of how they look, or that they deserve to be treated a certain way because of how they look is ****ing outrageous and disgusting.

"Ooh Chris you big stud, great innings, which clubs are you hitting tonight?"
"PHWOAR check out that photo of Stunning Shirtless Chris surrounded by young women"
"Let's send that reporter we hired partially for her looks to interview our big West Indian stallion"

"We’ll certainly be talking to him and the Renegades about it (Chris). This league is all about its appeal to kids, families and females."

You sound outraged friend. Can I help you? Maybe my wife can cook a delicious meal and we can eat and talk it all out?

I hope you don't assume she can't cook because she's good looking :(

Perspective, what a great word. Going by the reaction, Chris Gayle bent Mel McLaughlin over a chair and did her live on national tv.
What are you basing this on exactly? Who's calling for him to be banned? Who's calling for him to be charged criminally?

The over the top reaction is coming from those defending it.

I would argue that you're completely naive about the times that we live in now.
I would say that about you. You are idealising the way you think the times we live in now should be. We are a long way away.

That people on this board seem to be suggesting that someone is unqualified because of how they look, or that they deserve to be treated a certain way because of how they look is ******* outrageous and disgusting.
Sure is, but it is still the reality of commercial television.

There is some merit in the notion that Channel 10 are complicit in this.

But your suggestion that you know why she was hired is pathetic. Did you sit in on the meetings before she was headhunted from Fox Sports?

I would assume she was hired because she'd done a great job covering football and cricket on Fox Sports before 10 approached her upon securing the BBL.

But please, after trying to suggest that I was guessing how she felt (when it's on record from her boss), go on and tell us how factually based the bolded part is
