Have you had such little contact with human beings that you cannot tell when someone is offended without them having you actually say "I am offended"?

Was it offence? Or simply "this isn't in the script" confusion? Gayle himself was far from convinced at the press gathering this morning.

Was it inappropriate? It really does depend on the way you look at it. I'm more concerned with what his intentions were - and his intentions were to have a laugh about it all without offending anyone. Now he has offended Mel - and he more or less knows this, so he's tried to apologise to her directly but hasn't been able to yet. The next best thing he can do is say sorry in the media - which he has. Not a heartfelt apology, sure, but I've seen far worse.
It was inappropriate and it wasn't an apology at all.

What he said was in poor taste, inappropriate and his faux-apology left a lot to be desired.

Women shouldn't have to go through that at their work place.

She's a journalist: it's their job to dig through people's garbage and sensationalise every story. The truth doesn't matter for them, so why should we care about another scumbag journalist being "hurt"?

Do they worry about hurting their targets?
No!

It wasn't a joke, this is normalised behaviour for Gayle who wanted in her pants and wasn't appreciated by Mel. Simple as that.

He's had to play it off as a joke as that's the only way out to save a smidgen of face.

Neroli Meadows again

Still, this fails to understand how Gayle came to this behaviour. If Gayle has been indulged and his behaviour normalised, you seek to point a finger at him on this occasion. Or have Neroli and Mel compartmentalised this off-the-ground social aspect of the sport they cover. They cover the "heros". That is what they do. That is the context.

The devil's advocate: so why blackcat dont the canberra press corps cover the peccadilloes of the politicians in the nation's capital. Well, for one, it is the national gov't, and the press there have greater responsibilities to attend to than this.

It does beg the question, if it's such a well established fact that Chris Gayle doesn't mind trying to have a crack at any female that takes his eye, what the hell is a female reporter doing interviewing him in the first place?

Ding ding ding!

Elephant in the room.

You win 1000 Interweb points sir

All journalists are sensationalists who distort the truth, huh? Well done, you've made everybody in this thread dumber for having to read that.

Because it's her job?

When even the Herald Sun/news.com.au are calling out an apology you know that it was pathetic.

If you're so concerned about his intentions, have a listen to the link that multiple posters have put up where Neroli Meadows & Melinda Farrell both state that this is common and constant behaviour from Gayle that isn't meant as a joke but is intentional and disrespectful.

As it was happening you mean? I think they were a bit gobsmacked more than anything. They were keen to move on from it at the time but I thought Howie especially came off as disapproving in the immediate aftermath.
well, he first said "a bit amorous" and a chuckle, may have been uncomfortable chuckle, I would have to listen again, and anyway, with Lindy Chamberlin everyone thought she was guilty so we cannot know Howie's true position. But I do know, the football boundary rider of close to a decade back, was getting far too close to Karolina K the czech model when he was speaking to her off camera (tho there was the camera footage that I saw)...

If that's what you take from that, then that says more about you than anyone else possibly could.
Yes I have already been told in this thread what a 1950s emotionless child I am

But hear me out: yes I believe more in logic than frauds peddling emotional blackmail who beg for my trust.

You're getting very close to victim blaming.

You are putting words in her mouth. Has SHE been on record claiming to be offended by what was said?

As I've previously quoted, her boss has come out said that he spoke to her, and that she was offended, angry and embarrassed.

How do you not see that expecting the woman to come out and speak about it before it has any validity is part of the problem? Her claims can have validity without her having to go on air and shed tears, just so people like you know that she's upset.

This post makes no sense in the slightest.

Because it's her job?

Yeah but as Meadows/a million people have said, his behaviour is well known, so why poke the bear?

Either management didn't do their due diligence or they were waiting to see what would unfold with sweaty little palms.

So you think a hot chick with good work credentials wouldn't beat a plain looking chick with similar credentials 99/100?

I dont understand how this became a topic of discussion anyway.

How do Channel 10's supposed hiring practices justify what Gayle did, and how does it invalidate McLaughlin feeling "angry" and "embarrassed" about it?

I didn't really want to go down this road anyway as it's a non sequitur.

What's your point? She was doing her job. Gayle should've done his. That doesn't excuse what he did. That doesn't justify what he did. So what's your point? Unless you're victim blaming of course. Which I don't think you are. But that's how it could be interpreted.
