There's been no acknowledgement of the incident being on the small scale.

Do you think the immediate 'oh here come the do gooders', 'get a sense of humour', 'this country is getting ridiculous' leaps to defend this might have made 'small scale' impossible?

Gayle wasn't attempting to humiliate McLaughlin.

Agree this was probably not his intention.

There was no sexism

Addressing her because of her sexual attractiveness as a potential date and calling her 'baby' in a suggestive manner comes pretty close.

The "workplace" I this context, has been used to exaggerate the issue.

I believe this IS the issue and I am hoping people concentrating on this one incident don't allow this to be lost. It is certainly the issue for the female journalists that have stood up to be heard today. They believe they are just as good as their male counterparts, that they earned their careers and that propositioning them while doing their job pays no respect to their role or professionalism, instead reducing them to their sexual attraction.

Who are we to argue they should not feel that way?

Chris Gayle. Top bloke.

you shouldn't laugh but i couldn't help myself

Wrong. It's clearly not on the far end of the scale, and many people have said that whilst it not a major incident it is indicative of every present attitudinal issues in not only the workplace, but society in general.

Gayle wasn't attempting to humiliate McLaughlin.
So what? Drawing a long straw there. He did humiliate her, it doesn't matter if he was trying to or not. If I slap the arse of my co-worker but don't mean to offend her, it's still sexual harassment.

There was no sexism
Wrong again. Clearlt sexist. How can argue against that? [/quote]

It's clearly the workplace. What's Mel doing there, and what's Chris doing there?

I disagree with that. You could make a case for disrespectful. But there's nothing derogatory or sexist or demeaning about Gayle's choice of words.

Don't Blush Baby is not sexist, demeaning or derogatory???? WTF!!!!

At a nightclub I might agree with you, but in a professional capacity it grossly disrespectful, sexist and derogatory.

It's almost like Channel 10 are waiting for Mel to next appear on the BBL before letting her speak about the incident. It's not about ratings though, of course.

So she wasn't offended and is going along with the network to get ratings somewhere, or she was offended but is still going along with it?

Is there any room for the notion that she wants to be considered a serious journalist, and is tired of getting hit on while doing her job?

This is the way these things always play out. What can she say? She's not worried to stop being talking about it? She is worried to keep people talking about it?

Melinda Farrell said today that no matter what McLaughlin says or doesn't say, she will be criticised and she shouldn't be put in that position. She's right.

There seem to be two camps in this thread:

1) People who can see Gayle stuffed up

2) Stupid people or trolls
I can see he stuffed up, but the countless press conferences from CEOs and 10k fine are ridiculously over the top. A public apology should have been the end of it, not a lynch mob at the airport.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think Channel 10 will milk this for ratings, what world do you live in? The media milk anything if it means ratings. She will say something about the incident on her next BBL game, can bookmark it now.

Its not a workplace. It's a cricket ground. If anything, it's his workplace.

She is doing her job. What gives him the right to publicly hit on her while she is just doing her job. Is that what you mean?
"It's not a workplace". " She's doing her job ".

Umm. Clearly her workplace.

"It was more that it was unexpected," McLaughlin told Network Ten on Tuesday night.

"You don't expect to get that sort of answer and [it was] a little bit disappointing because I'm not used to seeing that.

"It just doesn't happen normally."

McLaughlin hopes never to be in that situation again and is pleased people are talking about the incident.

I don't really want to be the subject of such conversations. I just like going about my business and doing my job but [it's] definitely a good thing that people are talking.

Has she come out now?

Yes, with no fanfare.

Just disappointed. Has felt respected in her career to date so doesn't want to be in that situation again. Good that people are talking about it.

Just wants to do her job. Nothing emotive, nothing to throw more fuel on the fire or condemn anybody. No ratings grab. She did well.

Do you have to be morally outraged at everything? Watch the media milk this for a week with rumours of past incidents, and then forget about it when Gayle leaves the country.
This post is also stupid.
