Yes, with no fanfare.

Just disappointed. Has felt respected in her career to date so doesn't want to be in that situation again. Good that people are talking about it.

Just wants to do her job. Nothing emotive, nothing to throw more fuel on the fire or condemn anybody. No ratings grab. She did well.
Good to hear, now can we move on? Unfortunately I doubt the media will let us.

Actually it would be the perfect forum to state their principles, and then declare that anyone not prepared to follow them is not welcome. Good riddance, in fact.

So long as those same principles applies to all, and not just men of color. Because that is what our government do, they only ban black athletes and singers coming into the country (with unacceptable records), and they rightfully aren't allowed in. But, that only seems to apply to black athletes and singers, it doesn't apply to white athletes and singers, who get a pass. That is double standards. I can't help but think if Shane Warne had of made a pass at Mel, that he'd be applauded by half the country, yet Gayle does it and we want to string him up to Fed Square. The point I am trying to make isn't that it is acceptable behavior because it is anything but, however, the same principles should apply to all, no matter what their skin color is.

Chris Gayle. Top bloke.

Gayle should be punished by listing all his pick-up lines along with an estimated success rate for each.

What's wrong with complimenting a woman and asking her on a date?

There is a time and a place for it and this wasn't it, and tell her 'not to blush baby' is condescending to say the least. Tells me he is more in love with himself than her. If he thinks that's a good chat up line he is mistaken.

The media industry have a hand in this too. They purposefully hire very attractive women to interview young make athletes (most of whom have limited maturity) to sell their product. A blow up like this must be great for their ratings.

And no, I'm not blaming the attractive young women, I'm pointing at the execs. And no, I'm not saying they are incompetent, but the ratio of very attractive women in those spot is about 100 to zero.
Yep.

If Mel McLaughlin was fat and ugly, she'd be performing a menial office job somewhere.

The tv networks are sending the message out that a major determining factor for them hiring on air females is looks.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think Channel 10 will milk this for ratings, what world do you live in? The media milk anything if it means ratings. She will say something about the incident on her next BBL game, can bookmark it now.

What world do I live in?

You were flat out implicating McLaughlin in a Channel 10 ratings grab over this. Does that come across a touch insensitive? Nothing that takes place from here on in removes any disappointment she says she felt about the incident. Nothing suggests she is being insincere to whip up a bit of hysteria so they can cash in.

Really just serves to muddy the waters of a real issue.

As opposed to your argument in response to anything you disagree with with being "this is stupid".

:thumbsu:
I've put forward my argument before. It's based on my opinion and the comments of numerous female journalists describing why this is such a major issue.

Old mate's argument is "don't go outside you might get offended by clouds".

There's nothing more to say to that beyond "that's stupid".

I'm not saying Mel is going for the ratings grab, Channel 10 are the ones who will do that for her, and the rest of the media. Her comments were good, and that should be the end of it. Mistake was made, Gayle hopefully learnt a lesson. A day of media on this is more than enough.

Read back through the thread. Try more than calling people "flogs" and butchering the English language, and people might acknowledge you.

Completely agree that the networks have a hiring policy in this regard. That is not to say that the people they hire are not deserving of their jobs and are not professional in their jobs. It also does not in any way excuse anybody for behaving poorly just because an attractive person is put in front of them. It does however show that employers are considering attractiveness as a factor when hiring so they specifically can hardly take the high moral ground on sexism. What ... no apparently less attractive females have an interest in sports journalism, are intelligent with good speaking voices and work ethic?

So explain Mel Jones on the BBL then...? Definitely employed on qualifications over looks.
