I mean there's also the culture of disrespecting women in this country, in particular in sports and sports journalism. There's the enormous issues with violence towards women alive in this country at present, and the fact the roots of violence are in disrespect. Exactly the Gayle incident is only scratching the surface of deeply inherent attitudinal problems that unfortunately appear to be no where near shifting.

Look Mel says she hasn't felt disrespected before now. There were a couple of instances where she might have but they weren't as overt so she didn't. I am heartened in that she has done a lot of interviews, had a lot of contact in sporting circles and feels this is not the norm ... for her. So for her at least it isn't a deeply inherent attitudinal problem. Listen to Neroli Meadows and you might feel differently.

If you care, then I'd suggest it looks like an unwanted sexual advance. It is not undermining his professional career as he is not at work at the time, so it is not demeaning in that way. It could have been a heads up dialogue but probably not. Her job is to joke around with the guests so may be somewhere in the sphere of what is expected. Gayle's job is to play cricket and McLaughlin's job is to interview cricketers about cricket. What happened is far removed from Gayle's job description.

However, this guy might not have appreciated those comments. He may be married and felt embarrassed for himself and his wife. His wife might have felt embarrassed or humiliated.

What a genuinely idiotic comment. Surely in this day and age of professionalism, sports personalities have had some media training so they are able to not only "hit sixes" but talk to others about hitting sixes. And surely included in that training would be to show respect to the interviewer.
