This must be so horrible for you. Having to read things on the internet. How hard your life must be.I can't believe people here and the media are still going on about this.
A few stupid flippant remarks made in a brief boundary side interview in a hit and giggle cricket game and suddenly it's blown up into WW3.
The way this country over reacts to every minor non PC incident these days is both ridiculous and embarrassing, even Mel McLaughlin said she's accepted Gayle's apology and wants to move on while Gayle must be shaking his head at the media witchhunt of him which has resulted in him having to pay an unnecessary $10k fine just to appease the frothing media/PC brigade.
Good grief.
Would have been good for someone to point out he was playing the character as cast. Nobody has, not even him.The other thing is that the frothing media were the ones that played up his off field persona, then backed up the truck so fast your head will spin as soon as he played to the 'character' they'd helped create.

The concept of a "workplace" is not meant for someone who is lawfully engaged in worked outside their offices or factory.Utter stupidity. Again, if it's not her workplace what's she doing there? She's a journalist. It's her job. It's her workplace.
Meanwhile a kid dies from a coward's punch and this incident was at the forefront of the media.

Probably the biggest issue is that he still doesn't get it.
His public apology was a non-apology. He walked off when the questions insinuated he was in the wrong, not that she took his advances the wrong way. He still doesn't get it.
"I'm sorry if she took my joke the wrong way. I am sorry if she took offence."
Vs
"I am sorry I said something offensive. I am sorry that I caused offence."
One adds insult to injury, the other is a genuine apology.
That Grandstand piece is probably the best explanation of the situation and all the surrounding issues. Listen to it or read the transcript.
Wtf? That was all over the news. It was on the front page of the papers. It was all over social media.
This must be so horrible for you. Having to read things on the internet. How hard your life must be.
ok, devils advocate. No she doesn't - Gayle did this.
But she said it is good people are talking about it. Her colleagues are standing up for her. His colleagues are standing up for her.
The attention it's getting is way out of proportion to what actually happened and it seems to be a growing trend these days, AFL players can barely go out for a drink these days without it becoming headline news.
it's not horrible for me, it's just annoying and embarrassing the way people and the media overreact to minor incidents like this.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's getting sick of it.
So imagine if almost every day you were at work you had to experience this? How sick of it would you be? You have to read about it. They have to live it.it's not horrible for me, it's just annoying and embarrassing the way people and the media overreact to minor incidents like this.

You put a lot of words into my mouth there. I never said it was okay. I said on the surface it was inappropriate but talked about factors that muddied the waters.
You are reducing this to 1. At work 2. Sexual advances = same thing.
A key word you have to consider for sexual harassment is 'unwanted'.
A key word you have to consider for workplace harassment is 'humiliation'.
Yes they might both have violated workplace policies as to appropriate behaviour while at work but that's an individual workplace thing.
The key issue in the McLaughlin case is how it made her feel.
The key issue for me overall is that it belittled her job status and it's a problem that affects female journalists in general.
I am not deflecting. I am doing the opposite. The Gayle "incident" does not occur in isolation. There are enablers. One of which is MM's employer, if one wishes to take up a sexual harassment suite, p'raps her employer should be in the docks too.The deflection tactics still go on
- what about the other incidents of sexual harassment against men (see sunrise/UFC/Maria Sharapova)
- what about the kid that got king hit
Go start a thread on those then.
I'm confused. I could have sworn he tried to cop a feel, go in for a smooch and slipped his hotel key into her pocket and suggested they continue the interview in his room later. Naked. Isn't that what happened?

Hey Marto_, this is mansplaining. You would have thought so by the over the top reaction.
Well if you're referring to Mel McLaughlin, I'm sure she doesn't experience that sort of thing every day. I watch a lot of the BBL and she's generally treated with respect by her male colleagues at Ch10 and by the players, the Chris Gayle thing was a one off and even that wasn't as bad as it's being made out to be.
It's hard to feel too sorry for her, she has a pretty sweet media gig which she is very well paid for and travels to some great sports events like the Sochi Winter Olympics the Brazil World Cup. She's a very good female sports reporter but no doubt one of the reasons she has landed these sweet media gigs is because of her attractive looks and unfortunately the downside of that is that she will probably cop some unwanted flirting from guys in her line of work but on the whole I don't think she has it too bad. I would gladly swap places with her to earn the sort of money she is on and travel to the sports events she does and I'm sure a lot of people would do the same.
As someone said earlier in the thread, you'd be forgiven for thinking he bent her over on a chair and did her live on tv. Such is the outcry.I'm confused. Can you list some examples of said outcry to the proportion you're claiming? As someone said earlier in the thread, you'd be forgiven for thinking he bent her over on a chair and did her live on tv. Such is the outcry.

Good grief did I just travel back to the 1950's?You would have thought so by the over the top reaction.
