What a great time for this movie to get a run last night...

The BBM v the BBL

Similarity no.1 - Most of us think T20 is a pisstake, just like this movie...
Similarity no.2 - The uniforms. Cindy Sixer, Jan Star, Marcia...Marcia Marcia, Greg Renegade, Peter Scorcher and Bobby Hurricane...these would be great rock star names...
Similarity no.3 - The guy wearing Melbourne Renegades red is prone to pickup lines that women roll their eyes to...maybe Chris Gayle should have tried: "Hey there groovy chick - you're really hip in a far out kind of way"...
Difference no.1 - The Brady Bunch Movie is a fictional movie. The Big Bash is real life.

It's been forty pages so far i reckon you can keep it going for at least another ten.
That's...that's great. Really well done. Solid comment. Now, how are you going finding examples of me blowing it out of proportion? If I've made so many posts then it should be easy to find some. Unless, of course, I haven't and you've got nothing. But you seem very confident so I'm sure that's not the case. I'm sure your next post will contain several examples of me demanding Gayle be suspended and deported and lambasting every cricketer under the sun. I'm sure of it. I believe in you.

- It was a bit of harmless fun
- She is hot and works in the media so she has to cop this
- He is a cricketer and can do what he wants in interviews
- Everyone is racist
- Not harassment cause its not a workplace

We can add

- I have no idea what its like to be belittled in my workplace everyday but i reckon i would put up with it so she should as well... baby.
Don't forget comparing a cricketers media responsibilities to paying taxes.

"Most".

The 80k that were at the MCG the other night? Or the continued selling out of Adelaide Oval? Or the multi millions of dollars invested in the IPL each year?

T20 isn't going anywhere, and it's the other forms that people appear to be taking less serious. It's unfortunate, but inevitable. The current Australian test summer is a perfect example of why.

While all of that stuff is obviously a no go, Gayle was created by the Ten and BBL publicity machine. He was seen poolside with bikini clad girls, smoking cigars, drinking champagne, all part of the newly created "cricketing playboy" image. This was an incident just waiting to happen, i wonder if this isn't what Ten really wanted? Dwayne Bravo had a crack at Mel two years during an interview, virtually went unnoticed, but the BBL is a lot bigger now than it was in January 2014. Gayle has the reputation as a womaniser, Mel handled the move very well IMO, now Gayle is being dumped on by the very same people who created his persona in the first place? I doubt we will see Chris Gayle here again next year, not in prudish Australia. When it comes to whingeing, we have world-beating skills, what Chris Gayle failed to realise when accepting his role as cricketing playboy was, in Australia the new puritanism is alive, well and powerful. So he is now fined 10k for being flirtatious;), what fine will Dusty Martin cop now? On the Gayle scale somewhere close to 100k might be right?

What Gayle is like in his personal life has no bearing on how he should behave on the field, as a professional sportsman.

I am really struggling to see what people fail to grasp about this.

It's the Adam Goodes debate all over again.

You've got the do-gooders who are desperate to prove to themselves and others that they have a higher set of morals than everyone else.

And then you've got the level headed people who realise that, yes, Gayle should've acted more sensibly on television, but think this whole thing is being blown way out of proportion.

And I stress that I am not taking sides, that is just my summary of it all.

I would hate to see you actually take sides.

I usually do, but haven't really formed an opinion on this one. Why,do you prefer fence-sitters?

It certainly sounded like you had taken sides with your opening gambit. Backtracking on that does not mean that you had not picked a side.

So what happens now. What is the next step.

Gayle has been fined.
Mel has accepted his apology (although the apology was a fairly ordinary effort).
What happens now?

What is the outcome that people would like to see happen?

With Gayle? Nothing I'd presume. Renegades CEO might want to pull his head in (his own head I mean, not Gayle's) because he's just clearly a dickhead. But the Gayle thing is done and dusted.

You could argue if what he said was very smart or should've said it but it was so harmless, and actually an amusing bit of light hearted banter, that the backlash is just so out of proportion and political correctness gone mad. Just need common sense when analysing it. Commentators found it amusing as did the Ch.10 guy, who hastagged "#smooth" on twitter. If he did a "Jamie Briggs" then it would be a lot different. According to a talkback caller, who was there, Gayle gave her a friendly peck on the cheek, which she was happy with, before the camera's rolled, so they were very familiar. Might've been better if he just discussed his innings though.

While Mel was a little frustrated because she wanted to talk about the cricket while he was joking about telling her she had lovely eyes, but she was quite happy to brush it off. Frustrated, maybe a little disappointed as the interview drifted from the topic but probably happy to just let it go unconcerned. Certainly not "angry and frustrated like Ch.10 tried to make out. Problem is now though is dirty parasites of the media have made it so much of it it's become harder for her as she's in the centre of it making her feel embarrassed. Those idiots have made it just so much worse for her. As for Gayle you'd think he had robbed 3 banks and shot 2 people such is the media coverage. Social media is 90% in favour of Gayle saying it and literally bashed the media heavily criticising the political correctness of it. You can obviously see that on each media outlet's Facebook pages. Most can tell the difference between banter and harassment. Like I said, common sense.

Ever heard of the false consensus theory?

Forgive me if I lend little weight to feinting couch hand-wringers who pat themselves on the back for crusading on a a non-incident while ignoring real world problems.
Sexual harassment in the workplace isn't a non-issue. It tends to be emblematic of pervasive sexism.

- There is worse s**t in the world so get over it

You weren't splitting hairs before. You clearly stated there were two camps.

So, are you a do gooder? Or are you a "level headed" person who thinks the whole thing is being blown out of proportion?

If you think the coverage is out of proportion, you need to understand it's not just Gayle's comments anymore. Ray Charles could see that.
Yep, there are usually two distinct camps. I, however have not really sided with any argument as stated earlier.

If I was to choose a side I would say that I believe Gayle was stupid to say the comments he has. He should have expected at least some level of backlash but I believe it is maybe slightly over the top, just my opinion. If you believe its not over the top thats fine, thats your opinion.

Is it possible you're confusing the discussion about the sexism and disrespect female journalists put up with on a regular basis for an overreaction to Gayle's comments in isolation? They've kicked off a bigger discussion. Nobody is calling Gayle's comments themselves a hanging offence.

If you read my comments after my initial opening summary you would see that if I were to choose a side I would go against Gayle and his comments.

But obviously you chose to ignore that because if I was agreeing with you it wouldn't get you riled up.

Unfortunately, some people are going to take it too far. This is exactly what our SJW friends want. They single out the idiots who are clearly trolling, group them into the masses and next thing you know all men are disgusting sexist pigs.

I've checked your gender, and unfortunately it revealed that you are a man.

Bad news for ya buddy, you're not allowed to feel uncomfortable.

Sure, she may have been uncomfortable. There's been plenty of TV interviews where people have been uncomfortable. Are we really at that stage where people have to be so careful as to not make people the slightest bit uncomfortable during an interview? Or is it because Gayle was talking to a woman? What if a woman made a man uncomfortable on tv, would that bother you?

If I wanted to talk about sexism I'd be on the SRP board. I do however, believe that if anything, Gayle was out of line. All I've tried to do is summarise how the two different sides of argument are attack each other.

And I've kept stating that I have condemned Gayle for his comments. Or do you want me to disagree with you so you can launch into an argument?
