Sorry where did I say "all, every single female journo"?

Well your statement that female journos experience sexist and disrespectful behaviour every day insinuates that they all do or at least the majority do.

From what Mel McLaughlin has said it's not something she experiences every day or very often and I can't imagine she's the lone ranger.

In fact I find it hard to believe that any female journo would encounter sexist, disrespectful behaviour every day, no doubt it occurs but I can't imagine it
happening that often. I've worked in offices with females and I can't recall seeing them being subjected to that sort of behaviour, let alone on a daily basis.

lel plugger.
At the very least, you have to admit that the bad publicity Gayle has generated is a bad look for a competition that markets itself largely to families. No franchise will want that, let alone the BBL at large along with CA. He's done. To suggest otherwise is pure stupidity.

Well it's mostly the media's fault for generating the bad publicity by beating it up into a huge story, the incident itself was pretty minor and just needed an apology from Gayle to Mel which he has done and she's accepted.

The vast majority of people that watch the BBL, including families and kids, wouldn't be that bothered by what Gayle did, it's not like people will stop watching the BBL on tv or going to games because Gayle is still involved.

Gayle is being made out to be some monster in all this but people are quick to ignore the good he does, ápart from his entertaining batting that brings people through the gates he also signs autographs and gets photos taken with fans after games. He's a huge drawcard.

If CA ban Gayle from the BBL I think it would do a lot more harm than good, the majority of BBL fans would not be happy about it and there may well be a backlash.

Most of them pretty much are bullshit or at most overreactions

You're going to laugh at this, but a group of journalists, working for different employers, recounting incidents that go back years, aren't fabricating in an effort to bring down a freaking cricketer.

Inb4 you accuse me of being a Footy Show watcher again.

You do watch it.

Gayle ****ed up and has a history of ****ing up. Maybe you think it's overblown if Sam Newman makes you laugh 26 weeks a year.

Just because he has done similar behavior previously does not mean he flashed himself to a female either. This incident with Mel is the definition of a Mountain out of a Molehill.

Should have been Gayle tried to flirt with Mel and failed. Case closed. But nope, people couldn't let it lie there and now taking it to his BBL career.

You're going to laugh at this, but a group of journalists, working for different employers, recounting incidents that go back years, aren't fabricating in an effort to bring down a freaking cricketer.
No, they're recounting it for more hits which will give them more ad revenue and therefore more money. This is the only reason why that this has even been brought up and made into a story.

They will look for others who have had similar dealings in the past with said individual then palm it off as a new story (which has already been done) and get more ad revenue and money. They don't care whether its true or false. If it is false they can always print out a correction at a later date (RE: ABC, Fairfax and Murdoch Outlets have always done this).

It's fascinating how you treat Mel's words as gospel and keep bringing them up, but all the tales of this kind of behaviour that have come out over the last few days you just ignore.

Is that why Neroli Meadows and Melinda Farrell went on ABC? Ad revenue?

Good grief.

What a shame that just days after one of the great success stories in Australian sporting history it has all been ruined by the massive and somewhat hysterical over reaction by CA and Channel Ten. Gayle was promoted as the cricketing playboy before the BBL began and when it all goes awry they run fast and run far...He gets fined 10k for flirting! Sure he shouldn't have done it, but his persona is a media creation, his whole image was centred around him being the carefree, Caribbean swashbuckling batsman. He was hired to put bums on seats and it worked. Now these weazels take a dump on him and wish to ban him from actually playing! INSANE! On the Gayle scale Dustin Martin should be banned for life! Who are they punishing here? Gayle is the 3rd richest cricketer in the world, it won't bother him not playing in "prudish Australia" he makes $7.5million a year! It's the fans who are getting punished and we need these internationals out here to maintain the momentum the series has created. Look at today's farcical Test. The new puritanism is alive, well and powerful. I wonder if KP made a personal protest last night when he refused to talk to the commentators when going out to bat? The over reaction by Ten and CA defies all logic and i feel for Mel McLaughlin who now will probably cop unnecessary ridicule from fans due to the poor handling of the situation by her superiors.

I wondered that myself, it was out of character for KP when he's usually quite chatty and friendly with the commentators but he basically just shut them down last night.

I've got a feeling he wouldn't be too impressed with the way Gayle has been crucified by the media, Ch10 and CA, given that he's been treated in a similar fashion in England by the UK media and the ECB.

As I said before if they go ahead and ban Gayle from the BBL there could be a backlash from both the fans and the players over it.

If they ban Gayle I wouldn't be surprised if the other Windies players, Bravo and co, boycott the BBL.

The West Indies are the core international presence in the BBL. So CA are risking their brand greater if they take this path.

They don't need a formal ban to ban him

As already pointed out, the vast majority of journos and media outlets are just muckraking and beating up every little anti-Gayle story now to sell papers, get hits on websites and increase their tv ratings.

This sort of shit happens all the time these days with the Australian media, if you haven't woken up to that by now then you're even dumber than The Footy Show viewers you seem to look down upon.

It's fascinating how you treat Mel's words as gospel and keep bringing them up, but all the tales of this kind of behaviour that have come out over the last few days you just ignore.

I'll take Mel's word ahead of the majority of female journos as I respect the fact she doesn't overreact to incidents like this, despite this incident involving her she has made very little fuss about it, saying she's accepted Gayle's apology and just wants to move on.

I know her view doesn't fit your agenda to paint all female journos as being poor downtrodden sexually harassed victims by sexist male pigs so I can see why you ignore that too.

How is asking you about what you said deflection exactly?
Read your post carefully and see how much you addressed my actual argument.

You'd find out the only thing you touched on was ad revenue and went on what aboutism (deflection).

So we're done here.

How is this solely the fault of 'the media'? Have you even been playing attention to any of this?
Look, it's basic PR/marketing. Gayle is more trouble than he's worth. You can disagree all you want, but the fact is that no one at CA will want him anywhere near the BBL again for obvious reasons. That's it, that's all.

He won't be banned- I'd imagine the BBL would just make it clear to franchises that they don't want Gayle playing next year.

How do you know what they've experienced? How do you know they're overreacting?

You make nonsense assumptions with absolutely nothing to back it up.

KP's body language throughout the match was not good and i wouldn't mind betting he was pissed off, he quickly shut the commentators down stating he "wasn't feeling sharp"? WTF does that mean? I reckon he made a personal protest. He pretty much wanted to get off the field asap also. If the BBL think this tournament can work with just local players they are way off the mark, the hysteria has now become insanity with talk of banning Gayle from the competition. I didn't see Gayle threaten anyone with chopsticks in the eyeballs? This massive over reaction is a sad reflection on where Australia is currently. The avenues for complaint, and the media’s hyping of every little thing is blinding us to what’s really important and that is the game. We need the internationals to come here, in fact i would like to see more....it's utter nonsense to suggest the BBL would survive without some international representation. Australia really needs to get its head out of its arse! I do not condone Gayle's flirtation, there is a time and place for everything or none of us would be here at all! However the powers that be at CA and TEN are totally bereft of a sense of humour and have over reacted completely. All that was needed here was a lesson in etiquette, nothing more. Our proud ethos of a ‘fair go’ is hard to find in the clamour of calls from the Cricketing hierarchy to ban Gayle from the game. Perhaps our mock-shock at things we should be laughing at relieves us of worrying about the things that make us genuinely horrified?

Maybe in your opinion Gayle is more trouble than he's worth or to CA who are shitscared about upsetting the PC morally outraged brigade but most BBL franchises would still see him as an asset in terms of pulling crowds and bringing in revenue.

Interesting that Gayle is now taking legal action against Fairfax media, the media might have bitten off a bit more than they could chew in their rush to paint Gayle as the next Anti-Christ.

BBL is their second biggest pay day of the year (biggest if they don't play IPL). They won't be quitting because Gayle shot himself in the foot.

Let's observe shall we. This is simplistic and the advertisement agreements could be more complicated then I have illustrated it here.

Now I did not mention the ABC having ad revenue, nope I was referring to them when printing out a correction.

We're done here. If you struggle to understand this, you are either wilfully blind or deliberately being obtuse and dense.
