I wondered that myself, it was out of character for KP when he's usually quite chatty and friendly with the commentators but he basically just shut them down last night.

Have they ever gone down to a player on his way out to the crease though (maybe Gilly back in the day)? I reckon most players would tell them wait a bit (and getting run out soon after wouldn't do much to help the demeanour either). I'm pretty sure KP knows where his bread is buttered too - 10 are pretty good to him and he fits in well.

He'll drop it when he realises he's never playing here again after January. It's damage control until he leaves.
Why would he? That is more damages to pursue for defamation.

Big city lawyer costs plus all the gossipy details being discussed does nothing to help his image.
I'd say winning the case would do plenty. Not to mention the cash from it

Really doubt he's strapped for cash to pay a lawyer...

He's worth roughly $30m.

Has a few dollars.
I'll chip in a few dollars for Chris, some of the idiots at fairfax need a swift kick in the backside and go back to uni to understand what the fourth estate is there for, Edmund Burke will be rolling in his grave.

If, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if.

What if Chris Gayle wasn't a dick and none of this happened in the first place?

And that is exactly the point. You're content in blindly accepting allegations on their face and arguing that they're stone-cold evidence, yet unwilling to accept alternative propositions which may present themselves and which question the veracity of those allegations.

An allegation is not a truth.

You meant to say, a journalist has to report, without bias, on all issues?

Bias is always there, more so keeping keeping governments and bad people in line through investigative reporting and facts, not the sensationalist tripe we get so often.

What? I'm talking about things that have actually happened. You're proposing specific hypotheticals. This is always how it happens. "This happened and this is bad" "Yeah but what if THIS happened huh? Huh?".

A lot of people have come out and said female sports journos cop pretty poor treatment. Maybe, just maybe, they're not making it up.

How many more years does he have in him, really? He doesn't really bowl anymore, and the other night he complained about the cold making his back hurt. He'd come out for maybe one more season.

Well if guys like Hodge, Kallis and Hussey are still playing to the age of 40 odd he might have a few years left in him.

It's not like he does a great deal in T20s apart from stand and slog, he usually fields at slip or close in and rarely bowls these days.

As long as he's getting paid millions to play T20 I can't see him giving it away in a hurry.

I think being PC makes you more of a knob than saying PC
And I think if someone sees "political correctness" as a bad thing then that says more about that person than anything else ever could.

To win it all the details have to come out to prove he's right. That's not good for him (it wouldn't be "Gayle is a nice guy" for those who still haven't figured it out) and the IPL won't want all that shit in the media while their season is on. Straighten up and fly right will be the directive from his IPL team.

While I agree that 40+ seems feasible for a bunch of players, it's more whether or not his body is up to it these days. He looks a lot less enthusiastic this year than last about the whole deal (excluding his usual don't give a shit persona).

I'd also struggle to see him going that long given his back issues.

The hungry woman better have her story straight when she gets subpoenaed.

But "Gayle is a sexual predator who exposed himself to women" is a better tag for him.
From that I'll take it you know very little about the IPL and it's fans

BBL is their second biggest pay day of the year (biggest if they don't play IPL). They won't be quitting because Gayle shot himself in the foot.
The Pakistan Super League begins February 4th, we are not the only place they can play. IPL, South Africa, the Caribbean and now the PSL. Maybe it's CA that shot itself in the foot?

Being informed and be willing arguments for all points of view is better than narrowing your views in a politically correct manner. The politically correct orientation isn't the best way to go about judging issues as it doesn't allow all points of view to be judged fully and as effectively as possible. Being more open and less narrow set in the mind allows us to learn more and allow our species to continue to evolve.

People that propose PC orientated views are an alternative version of the medieval Roman Catholic Church in their war against science and the way human progression and evolution should be managed. They only accept their own views and don't compromise nearly enough. Intellectual control over certain ideas and issues to feed an ego in a way is the PC way.

That sounds like you're reading way too much into the situation. KP made a personal protest? lol
KP makes plenty of personal protests, but they're always about guess who... KP!

You do not understand how journalism + the media work in this day and age.

This isn't rocket science Plugger. It doesn't matter what you think about Chris Gayle, the fact is that he's gone from being one of the BBL's biggest drawcards to an embarrassing burden in no time at all. He's essentially being paid to promote the BBL- but he's no longer capable of doing so. This isn't your normal 'player ****s up, apologises' scenario.
KP looked like a player who didn't want to be there last night....tells the commentators to back off? Yep, KP loves talking about KP and never misses an opportunity. IMO it was a protest and i also think he ran himself out.

Political correctness dictating that Gayle's conduct in the interview was a little bit naughty is fair enough.

Political correctness enforcing quotas on sports administration or anywhere else is sickness.

Whilst it's a discussion better suited to the quotas thread, I'd say the quotas in SAfrican cricket for example (the only ones I really know about so there could be others that are different) are for reasons much more complex than simply "political correctness".

How about simply picking the best eleven cricketers to represent the nation?

I can't see any of them skipping the BBL because of anything they might do to Gayle. They'll all play in as many leagues as they can I reckon (and why not - only so many years they can ride the gravy train).
