Gotta be honest I am not a Rex fan, I never enjoyed his commentary as it became too 'entertainment' focused. Got to the point where with all his nicknames, I had no idea who had the footy and what was actually happening in a game. Having said that, I thought it was a very good interview. The way he spoke about his personal misdemeanours was very refreshing. It was clear he was happy to be given the opportunity to speak openly and get some stuff off his chest.

When I was at university in the mid-2000s I got hooked on 3AW football. All my of study would take place listening to the footy on the radio - Friday night and Saturday afternoon my favourites. It'd be the only time where I'd look forward to doing some study, I guess as I felt the team were there for company. Rex Hunt was a huge part of that. But all of these were always as a neutral listener.

Made some games very exciting for me who otherwise had no stake in them. It was only on Saturday that I saw Aaron Davey kick a vintage goal and it took me back to "Hi ho everybody!" every time Davey touched the footy (which was a lot at the time).

I thought the interview was captivating but I thought there was far too much emphasis on the negatives in comparison with the positives. I could hear people like Rex Hunt and Tony Charlton talk about calling the champions all day. The way his eyes lit up when talking about Ablett...

Wish Mike finished it off with those who we don't know what their doing now, by asking what you're doing.

It gets covered sometimes (Scarlett, Hunt, Pagan ect) but there are plenty we have no idea what their doing life after Football

Was it just me or was Sheahan really uncomfortable throughout the whole thing.

There was an odd vibe, like he almost didn't want to keep asking questions at one point

This has actually been my favourite footy show this year, been some great interviews with some really varied guests, it's really great to see the human sides of footy and the characters involved with it, especially when most of the time the footy media seems so embroiled in the scandalous and sensationalist side of things. The Doug Hawkins one in particular was fantastic, I really like the bloke.

I agree with what others have said, though, that it needs to be an hour long because half an hour isn't really long enough for these huge names of the game. It does tend to feel rushed.

Well for this one it was one of the first questions Mike asked, Rex says he working with Croc Media AFL Live calling games for 76 stations around the country into rural areas. He's also fishing a fair bit.

Thought it was great, although I was distracted by the fact he kept squinting his left eye.

The ending of these shows comes around too quickly, they really need to go for longer than 30 mins.

I said he covered that with the Hunt (and a few other ones too), but what I was saying is he should always touch on what their doing work wise.

I remember the Martin Pyke interview last year, and it was missing, "what are you doing with yourself now".

Happens a bit.

Should have been more content on the 'war' between Rex Hunt and the late Bill Jacobs on 3AW. Would like to know why these two never got on away from the microphone.

OK. I thought it was covered in the Pike one? He's coaching down near Hastings or the Mornington Peninsula?
Or maybe I read that somewhere, rather than Pikey saying it on the show, can't remember

He definitely didn't ask it, but cheers for letting me know

I love this show and probably my favorite footy show of the week.

Just needs to be an hour for mine. There is so much more that they could go one with. I mean, maybe it doesn't have to go an for all of the guests, but for guys like Rex where he played 200+ AFL games, 2 flags and then spent 20+ years on the radio, he would have had some great stories to tell

Just watched the Rex Hunt Open Mike and thoroughly enjoyed it. My favourite Open Mike of the year.

Who is the guest next week?

Barry Hall

He lost me as the years went by because as a listener I could hardly visualise where the ball was on the ground because he seemed too preoccupied with his theatrics which detracted from the call.
I also grew tired of his Rex-isms, he'd been trotting out the same lines for 20 years which just became stale.

Looking forward to seeing tonights ep though, just waiting for it to come online.

Agree. Rex was great to listen to unless it was your team playing and you were actually interested in what was actually happening in the game, this is the reason why him and Grybas worked so well, absolute chalk and cheese in terms of commentating.

Did anyone upload Dougy Hawkins interview? The_Wookie
You can find them all on torrent sites that contain Aussie Rul.es content, trust you understand but I don't want to get in trouble for posting such links to any Aussie Rul.es torrent sites.

im being a little cautious with fox produced shows at the moment since ive been pinged on both dailymotion and youtube.
Appleguts sends a message from the grave - do not upload / stream any Fox footy content.

RIP Apples.

he made a comment near the end of the interview that it wasnt meant to be this hard.

also him and Hunt seem pretty close mates so it wouldnt be easy hearing someone so close be so honest about some very personal issues, some which would of effected Mike emotionally as well
