Mike just said he did Tony Modra today.

In an interview kind of way.

The interviews are great.

The music is annoying.

Anyone know what that song is that was playing in the background about half way through when Dougie was talking about EJ and passing his games played record? Have heard it many times before, but it annoys me to not know what it is and who it's by. It's kind of a sparse guitar figure over an electronic beat.

IIRC, it was one of the worst Open Mike's I've ever seen. As someone who was close to the Devils as he tore them apart, and as someone who knew a couple of players that were screwed over by his bullshit, I was blown away by Cresswell's ability to sook it up in a "woe is me" sort of a way, while also failing to accept any responsibility for the people that he screwed over.

I know people have demons that will cause them to do shitty things - but isn't one of the 10 steps about accepting responsibility?

He had all the wraps in the world on him as an AFL assistant too.

Pretty sure Cresswell has never done Open Mike.

Sure you're not thinking of these interviews?:

Sounds like you're describing The XX - Intro.

Don't know from a neutral perspective, but as a dogs supporter that was great to watch. Really says something when blokes like Skilton and Barrassi say you're the best ever.
Was fantastic as a neutral. EJ cut across all aspects of footy.

Just watched it. It was pretty well done, nothing most of us haven't seen but I enjoyed it, if you could call it that. Funny they didn't mention when he coached Williamstown in the mid 70's and got us relegated. :D

I doubt whether many of us have seen the Ted Whitten story recently - and that's why it's so invaluable that the story continue to be told. Because as great a footballer as he apparently was, his real legacy isn't football, but the way his profile (gained through football) was used to educate men about their own health. Men like Ted Whitten have led a complete cultural shift. I don't think there are many men my age (30s) who shirk going to the doctor anything like our grandfathers did.

Think Scott West would be a good guest. Many interesting topics that Mike could delve into. The Simon Cox rumours, depression in early 00's, his last year of footy and trying to return from injury, feeling lost and turning to alcohol after his career ended, two very close Brownlow losses, the offers to go to Essendon. Also he was an assistant with Melbourne when they were accused of tanking. He is someone who we haven't really heard much from. Plus he was just a gun player and Hall of Famer.

Definitely would be a good one. Didn't know he turned to the drink.

Yeah come out a few years ago, he started at the club at 15 so once his career was over he had no idea what to do. Also the way his career ended would have cut him deep. Was so sudden and thought he thought was a chance to get back (even played VFL) but he body was just shot.

Gun footballer, he always had a sad aura about him, if that makes sense.

should be a cracker looking forward to it.

From what i've heard Modra is doing pretty well so hopefully Mike can't get too bogged down in the off field stuff.
There's plenty to talk about:

The golden era of full forwards
Winning the Coleman
His marking
Blight
Doing his knee and missing the GF
1998 and falling out with Blight
Being Freo's first real superstar

will be interesting to see if he gets the full story around the Blight falling out :)

Sheehan will probably say he under performed at Freo which couldn't be further from the truth considering the team he was playing with!

Yep that's it.

Wow... I've never seen this before. Thanks for posting. As much as it is a little cringing to listen to for people who didn't know EJ all that well in 2015, it does take one back to a time when then this stuff was hilarious. If you grew up with EJ Whitten you would understand this was the bloke inn a nutshell. He swore like a trooper and gave it out..... but he copped it his way and laughed and had a drink later. Bill Cannon would have laughed at this.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Open Mike special on Ted Whitten.

He would be good on fox footy as a commentator

Look forward to his story

Thing Jordan Bannister is next, seems like it would be a boring one at first glance, essendon then carlton player then went into umpiring, but i would dare say most of it will be about his family/brother
Is his brother that jockey who got caught with drugs in China?
