Ah fair enough, just going off what Mods said, last game in Perth?
Freo had their away jumper and white shorts on. Think Mods may have been a bit confused. Didn't seem like he remembered a great deal of specifics of his career. Pretty laid back.

Terrific interview.
Can certainly tell he's not overly comfortable in the media, and he's quite the humble guy.

Well done Mike.
Yeah he just seems happy to have played some football and moved on to the next part of his life.

I liked how he was so grateful for giving him a second chance. Seems like a ripping bloke.

Absolutely!

I love how humble he was, but he clearly also knew he was special.

He kept talking about 'putting on a show' and 'doing what the crowd came to see', but did it in such a way that it wasn't at all arrogant.

Would love another Modra to make his way into the AFL someday soon

It can be hard to recall just how big Modra was back in the day, hate to imagine what it was like for him in Adelaide. Bugger just disconnecting the doorbell, i'd be installing ten foot walls and machine gun nests.

Modra was the bloke we all wanted to be. Good looking, superstar, big marks, plenty of goals. One of my favourite ever non-RFC players. He tore us a new one on plenty of occasions too.

Will never forget the day he tore SOS to shreds. SOS couldn't get anywhere near him.

So good in the air, and almost equally as good when the ball was on the ground.

He must go close to the most goals 'soccered' from off the ground.

Not bad for a bloke who took as many hangers as anyone.

Can't believe he didn't even get a ticket to the 98 GF because of lack of tickets! WTF AFL?

Didn't realise Brisbane offered him huge money in 1995, fairly sure they tried that with a few of our players (Macca was definitely another).

Wouldn't it be WTF Adelaide Crows. I bet they were happy to dish out tickets to some of their corporates but not one of their star players.

Watching those highlights last night you forget how good Modra was at his peak. Sensational player.

i was only 11 or 12 when he burst on the scene in adelaide, but i've never seen anything like it

one of the greatest days of my life was on my 13th birthday getting a pack of footy cards for my birthday (amongst other things), opening the pack and finding a tony modra gold card. still got it now

I remember modra playing in boonies testimonial down here in the 90s he signed autographs for every kid who lined up, champion bloke off the ground

Just finished watching it and seems like a really humble bloke. I first started getting into AFL around the 95/96 years as a young bloke and was a fan of the Crows.

Huge highlight reel Modra has. I like how he felt towards the fans that they come and pay the money so the least he can do is sign an autograph for them. I think someone posted on here in one thread about how he chats to the kids etc in Victor Harbour nowadays and goes about his business and that he is just a genuine good, humble bloke.

A superstar who seems down to earth, humble and normal. That is rare.
I was about 10 when he burst onto the scene and was very Ablett centric. Although I knew he was great, I didn't fully appreciate it at the time.

What is it now that makes him tick? What's making him happy in life is what I wanted Mike to ask.
I remember years ago he had put on a ton of weight but looks quite healthy now. What happened after his career would be interesting to know. He lit up when he spoke of his children, looks like he would be a great Dad.

I sat down and watched the Tony Modra interview last night. I thought it was very good, plenty of interesting elements to the Modra story. Sounds like he is in a very good place at the moment. Staggering to think with so much natural talent, he made his debut at the age of 23. He seems to have a "Patrick Rafter' persona about him - ripping bloke, very humble and comfortable with his situation as a revered sporting champion.

Those 13 goals against Carlton in the 1994 opening round - ala 'John Coleman' in the opening round of 1949 when he kicked 12 goals (on debut).

Unfortunately, from a Kangaroo supporter's perspective, he seemed to reserve some of his best stuff for North Melbourne. Those marks over Glen Archer & Mick Martin were incredible.

I must be the only one who thought the Modra interview was a complete snooze fest. I'd rather watch the Chris Mew interview.

That said, Modra seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

Yeah I agree. I always thought of him as a nomad who liked the 'good life', but actually he seems the opposite. He seems like such a genuine bloke.

i got the feeling people thought it was going to be great interview cause his AFL highlight reel is great.

as its pointed out before it seems like he is in a good place at the moment and with himself still being involved with the club and enjoying life i think people were expecting the opposite and that some kind of controversy was going to be said about his ending at the crows.
