I didn't bother on Monday night. Chris Mew doesn't spring to mind as a player with an exceptional story. So I gave it a miss and watched the ABC instead.

Mike still has a plethora of former players who do have an interesting & entertaining story to tell. Some of the blokes who he could consider - Jim O'Dea, John Greening, Jim Buckley, Paul Sproule, Graham 'Jerka' Jenkin, Paul Meldrum, Fraser Brown, John Pitura, Bill Barrott, and.......given the hype around Caitlin Jenner - maybe Ian Stewart?
From WA - Dean Kemp, Daniel Kerr, Karl Langdon, Peter Wilson, SA - Gary McIntosh, Andrew Jarman, Wayne Weideman, Mark Bickley, Mark Ricciutto, Tony Modra.............

Paul Salmon was in the 2013 season - Guest no.14.
Chris Judd - Episode 2 Season 1. (2011?)

All I remember Chris Mew for is that he was rhyming slang for spew

Sorry Contra.....I've amended my post after checking Mike's guests.

North Melbourne players I wouldn't mind seeing - Barry Cable, Schimma, David Dench, Donald McDonald, Paul Feltham (coach of Brisbane at one stage), Frank Gumbleton (use to carry a gun when working as a security guard...wonder if he ever had to take it from the holster?), Laurie Dwyer (Barassi's runner) and Stan Alves - wrote a book called Sacked Coach.

Surely Stan Alves has done enough, David "ripped off by not being AFL full back of the century and then took up criminal activities" Dench would be a great one!!

Yeah, if Mike was allowed to go into Denchies business activities it would be compelling viewing. But I wonder if Denchie would put up the barrier like Des Tuddenham did. Became a Mexican stand-off when Mike delved into Tuddy's scrap metal interests. Tuddy shut it down pretty quickly.

Why the **** hasn't Schimma got a gig - that is bullshit

Another North player who has had an interesting life was 1975 premiership wingman Peter Chisnall. He played for three years (1968 to 1970) when North was on the bottom, went back to the bush (he was a butcher by trade), then was enticed back in 1974 to play in consecutive Grand Finals. He only played one more year before heading down the coaching path. While coach of New Norfolk (TAS), he jumped the fence to tackle a supporter.

A mate of mine who played under Chisnall said he was a terrific coach who had some crazy ideas to rev up the players. He apparently arranged for the hinges to be loosened on a door so he could barge through it and fire up the team. Unfortunately the hinges weren't loose enough (or it was the wrong door?) and when he ran full pelt at the door, it didn't budge and he bounced off, severely damaging his shoulder. Might have even broken his collarbone.

I know he only played 80 games but he was a valuable member North Melbourne's first ever premiership team.

I agree, surely he'd be a better interview than Chris Mew?

I'm a massive Schimma fan. In my mind he is the number one "Shinboner" of my era watching footy. It is strange he hasn't been on Open Mike yet. (Wonder if its something to do with being on the tribunal).

Like open Mike, but in a 16 team competition it took until the 99th episode to have a West Coast player interviewed in Guy McKenna after his sacking from Gold Coast. I would love to see some of the following interviewed: David Wirripunda, Gerard Neesham, Ross Glendenning, Peter Bell, Brian Cousins, John Worsfold, Austin Robertson

Peter Wilson would be another who would be worth an interview for business practices + brief commentary stint + premiership player at WCE

Last 2 weeks have highlighted for me how important it is for Mike/his producer to remember that it is the story, not necessarily the on field accomplishments of the individual, that make a good show.

Mark Eustice, journeyman footballer, but a fascinating tale
Chris Mew, top line player, but "I turned up, did my job, went home" does not make riveting TV.

As an example of 2 Hawthorn premiership players I'm tipping Matt Spangher, at the end of his career, would be a far more interesting watch than the much more successful Mew.

I'd also lke Sheehan to expand his horizons to more 'backroom' people.
Thinking back to the Mew era at Hawthorn, imagine the stories of their legendary trainer Bob Yeomans or the insights of club stalwart Brian Coleman.

Just generally I'd like to see people like George Stone, Richard Colless, Frank Costa on the show, rather than say a Leo Barry or Corey Enright.
