Well I have tested Oo for a month now including lightning and I think it is just as good as MS office...

There are some issues with excel but given it is a free product, I really can't complain.

The calender (lightning) is every bit as good as office BUT no where near as graphically appealling but meh....

All in all I think it is a far and away a decent product and I will be recommending both to all my future clients......

P.S... Mozbackup is great but not quite up to pftbackup :(

It's a very good free product, but if it is one or the other, regardless of price, then MS Office shits all over it.

Oo is still Word 2003 standard. Office 07, and now 10/13 or whatever it is called (I have the Tech Preview) is very good. The ribbon bar is so simple and allows for quick editing/presentation ot whatever.

It's very quick as for startup times, probably quicker than Oo in my experience.

I have been using Open Office exclusively on my personal PC and laptop without a single problem.

Most people wouldn't need more than what Open Office can provide unless it's in an industry that has developed a lot of its internal documentation on MS Office such as the financial industry using excel spreadsheets and VBA.

Lets just say I wouldn't push the MS product unless it is absolutely neccessary for the person.

MS Office 2007 is one of the worst pieces of s/w i have ever used. They "upgraded" us to it at work several months back. Why bother completely changing the way a user operates the software when there is scarcely no added functionality and the same tasks actually take longer (i.e. number of clicks) to perform. Let alone the wasted time in actually learning how to do the same stuff you have always done. Big fail on microsoft's part imo.

Agreed that Office 2007 is a steaming pile of poo.
Office 10 is a much better product, probably even in the Tech Preview stage. Pretty similar to the Vista to Win7 change. Not much visually, but the inside is more slimline and it works a whole lot better.

Yes, lots of 'WTF?' moments when you try to do something that used to be easily done.

That shouldn't be a problem. Oo opens .doc's plus you can save an Oo dec as a .doc. There is also a setting that you can get Oo to always save in MS office format.....

Really? I had terrible trouble trying to get my resume into a job agency that only accepted .doc form a few years back. Better go back and have another look I guess...

I was using Open Office for a long time for business & was more than happy with the product & its usability. I had to cave in & buy office 2007 as One of my main Clients uses The Business Contact Manager from outlook so had to ditch OO. Best Free Product Ever IMHO.
