"Open training session" today

When was the North open session you speak so highly of? Was it a day before one of the biggest games of the year?

Not sure if Essendon even advertised any BBQ or anything too fancy with the players, all I heard was it was an open session.. which is exactly what it was. When I was younger I got to attend an open training session.. who did I get to meet? Kepler ******* Bradley.. Yet I was still stoked.

Yeah they did have another one today, I was at the Essendon one so I can't talk of turn outs to this one today.
I hear what you are saying in regards to the BBQ etc, maybe I was expecting too much, but surely the players could have spent a couple of minutes with the people who turned up?
Again, kudos to Dyson Heppell, I have heard him on SEN and watched him play and thought him to be of a high calibre, today just confirmed it! Future captain material?

He does not contradict himself in the OP, I mean hell, they had to specifically go down and request to get Heppell out. Keep in mind barely a fifth of the playing list came out to sign autographs. Notice how he says a disappointment for the people who went out there today? He wasn't the only person there.

I agree with him, it's been the common practice for when Essendon has had a rare open session. All they do is some mild running and goal kicking, followed by some autographs. Except this time they didn't even get the whole team out signing autographs, only a handful.

Feel free to act like a complete idiot though, some of us actually like it when opposition supporters come here and provide constructive input, it's people like you who drive them away.

It is hardly a troll thread. The way this is going, we're going to end up like the Carlton board where only posts giving us blow jobs will be allowed.

It's a discussion forum, he can post it on here if he wants, hell, our own supporters have been discussing it as well.

Lout has valid points. I was there, it was a pointless, pointless day. Dempsey, Hurley, Bags, Jetta, Bags, and I think Howlett signed autographs, then they all ran inside after ten minutes and that was that.

The fact they advertised it was dodgy, plain and simple. It was barely a training run. They were on the turf for twenty, perhaps thirty minutes, then left, with only a few returning.

There's no need to troll Lout, he is clearly frustrated and rightly so. It certainly didn't live up to expectations.
I wish people would stop using the word "troll", for god's sake. This is ridiculous.

Bored mate? I wasn't whinging just expressing an opinion. I did praise certain members of the club publicley and as I said I will raise this with the club on Monday.

Yeah, I'm not sure but maybe when you attended the North open session it was at a more relaxed time of the year etc, though that doesn't excuse the way Essendons open sessions are.

When I attended the session as a younger bloke no real named players signed anything.. they just had the younger players and sheeds also did some signings. It didn't really bother me at the time as the only signature I wanted was Courtney Johns ... Really wanted the bastard to suceed.

The fact that the club has historically been conservative, dour, and anti-social doesn't surprise me which is why I'm so flippant about what goes on at the moment - the appeal of both signatures and watching players train unless it's before a final or some such has always been beyond me. People are entitled to not give a shit just as much as they're entitled to care.

That being said, can people just discuss the topic rationally without worming some conspiracy into it? Please? It's a legitimate point of discussion.

We went to the North session before the Richmond game, so yeah not as intense build up, but still they did do it better. Good luck to all.

Went to the Essendon cricket day last year got about 20 signatures on a jumper and a load of Vic cricket team signatures. That was all in about 30 minutes.

This was promoted as a training session not an autograph session. Anyway Essendon can do good days for their supporters, sorry yours wasn't one of them.

Well said. I think the state of "open training sessions" is well known here, so the OP bashing is plain embarassing. The EFC really should be looking at these sessions as a bit of customer service and really try to get it right, last thing we want is for it to end up like English premier league where players won't have anything to do with the supporters.

Looking at it from a 5 year olds perspective, if i went to a training session with expectations of meeting my idol and subsequently got disappointed that it didnt come to fruition, i would be content to see them in the flesh, but still upset i didnt get to meet them.
Then, when all hope had subsided, a giant figure emerges from the race, he eyeballs me and crushes the ground with each step he takes in my direction. Intimidated, and a little frightened, i grab my Dads leg for protection, shaking in anticipation, my dad smiles at him then me, this reassures me that this moment is not one to be scared of.
My idol stretches out his enormous hand and grasps mine, all my dreams have come true, Vanders says "hey mate, how are ya champ?, lets get a photo together" at that moment my excitement excretes itself down my leg, only a trickle but enough to notice the warmth.
Today, i woulld still have that photo, and remember how i pissed myself, but more importantly, how i got to share an unforgettable childhood moment with my dad.
Kids dont forget shit like that, and a big 'well done' to Dyson for taking that time out to oblige a 5 year old child, im happy for you and your boy that although what may be a significant but passing moment for you, it will stay with him forever.

I agree it could have been a real PR bonanza but was obviously a let down in your eyes.

Should you want to see a real family day, come to the Essendon family day at the end of the season and ALL the list will more than freely sign autographs for you and your 5 year old son.

Things have got a little heated on our board recently from some immature posters so a lot of our guys are worked up towards North posters.

Might be time you head back to the North board pal, thanks for your opinion pal and one which you should have perhaps emailed the club in regards to, instead of lining yourself up to be shot down and fall hard.
