What about Max Gruzewski as a possible recruit?
I wanted this bloke last year. He is a quality player.

a player half the league wants and North are apparently going to throw Flanders type of money atWhat about Max Gruzewski as a possible recruit?
I get that, but that's the minority and absolutely not what we should be hoping for or hanging our hat on.yeah but it happens.
couple of years ago Hawthorn were 1-6. the teams they lost to in those first 7 rounds ended up finishing 1st, 3rd, 9th, 11th, 13th, 14th. then something clicked and they went 13-3 from there; 11-2 from the end of May.
it's not ideal but history says it's always possible.

History says that the 8 changes very little post round 8. That's something to be more front of mind on.

Wouldn't even know the stats or if there are any on that.agree but I reckon (though without specific evidence) history also says that young teams with a bunch of new recruits take a while to gel properly
I wouldn't mind it but the fact that he's only 192cm-ish puts me off (I know he plays bigger than he is). I want a big 195cm+ target like WalterWhat about Max Gruzewski as a possible recruit?
I can tell you with 100% certainty that ignoring good short targets was not, is not and will never be part of the game plan.Unless we get that midfield and forward line organized and running on all burners, then we will struggle with Melbourne- simples. It looks to me that in the Collingwood game, Lyon must have instructed the half backs and midfield to kick long regardless, even when good short targets were calling for the ball.
Collingwood will never struggle to attract players
Biggest crowd any Saints player had played in front of Sunday, Pendlebury's 41st largest crowd LOL

Where is Jobe? Shanahan at with his contractHe's very good at least. 5 bags of 4 goals, 2 bags of 5 from 15 games last year in the VFL.
If we want more height Jefferson is a proper tall forward and pretty sure he's out of contract. He's behind Van Rooyen and with Mihocek into the side he's probably feeling left out.

That’s an interesting take and while we are all feverishly keen to cement ourselves in as genuine top 8 challenger …it was interesting listening to Joey’s take on us this year before season kick off which was : get into at minimum a play off this season with the real window starting from next year for 3. His comment was the list still has gaps so was quite interesting to hear it from him (not to mention 20% of our starting 18 has changed this year).Whilst 9 and 10 play in finals. If that’s where we end up, I have some grave concerns we have mightily ****ed up.
We need to be genuinely in finals and dare I say comfortably in the 8.
We won’t be replacing gaps with quality if we are the 9-10th best side. That’s an interesting take and while we are all feverishly keen to cement ourselves in as genuine top 8 challenger …it was interesting listening to Joey’s take on us this year before season kick off which was : get into at minimum a play off this season with the real window starting from next year for 3. For me it’s probably less about the wins (I’d love them) but I’m more concerned IF I see the same old same old
Problems re surface as I did last week…lack of forward 50 connection, ball being bombed in and multiple players getting sucked into a contest while opponents keep theirs out only to take the ball away easily and score. IF those things don’t get addressed….Houston we have a problem…want to see a tighter, more disciplined style in our play that the top sides have..
That’s true but it might just be where we are at - I think that was Joeys pointWe won’t be replacing gaps with quality if we are the 9-10th best side.
Too many sides ahead of us with cap space to make it difficult.
Not sure that Ross gets to kick for goal though.IF we see the same type of dumb footy (saw it last week) then Ross ain’t our man and I don’t like saying that cause I think he’s made us relevant again but you gotta be able to score
The idea that Ross Lyon is defensive, dour football that doesn't score goals is outdated and ridiculous. Usually parroted by those that don't watch footy, but read about it in the Herald Sun on a Monday. Not sure that Ross gets to kick for goal though.
Or mark the ball.
He gives us the game plan to get the inside 50s - which he did.
The execution bit, he can’t do.
And the commentators who although they do watch footy every week, think we are the only tram that gets numbers back and dont understand that opposition will ptrds up hard as well to lock the ball inThe idea that Ross Lyon is defensive, dour football that doesn't score goals is outdated and ridiculous. That’s the bit I grapple with ….so bombing the ball in gets us a stat that says it’s gone in…..doesn’t give us the best chance to score ?Not sure that Ross gets to kick for goal though.

Ross doesn’t play the same style he did early days that’s obvious but I wouldn’t say he’s the most offensive minded coach getting around ..The idea that Ross Lyon is defensive, dour football that doesn't score goals is outdated and ridiculous. Why not? Wants the team to move the ball fast, which isn't conducive with a defensive mindset.but I wouldn’t say he’s the most offensive minded coach getting around ..
Not sure the scoring results back the rhetoric up budWhy not? Wants the team to move the ball fast, which isn't conducive with a defensive mindset.

Yeah I’ve thought that too at times but only someone with their hand in the sand having watched Lyon coach for decades would suggest he’s a heavy scoring coach - he doesn’t need to be btw - but kicking 9 goals a game against top sides won’t get it done. We know this been there seen it beforeThat’s on the players. That’s on Mitch Owen’s being a terrible kick at goal. That’s on the inability of players to hit a target.
