If we trade Talia we are a soulless club. Think back to his B&F speech - he is a bloke you want in your club

If he was ok with it and it made us stronger, it is an option. He kind of peaked early and hasn’t really added a lot to his repertoire.

I think some people in here might be getting things wrong way around

It's not just the top end of the 2018 draft that is stand out , it's the depth to about pick 30 ( already ) ie U17s that have shown plenty already in U18s champs

3 picks from 10-25 will net 3 VERY good players and IMO worth more than one player in top 5
Absolute guns rarely come from the top picks anyway, it’s somewhat of a crapshoot.

Looks impressive, but with a lot of that in close stuff, you have to wonder if he’ll be able to do that at AFL level. Some pretty weak tackle attempts there.
Rankine can turn on a dime then just bursts away.
not many in the AFL will be able to lay a hand on him now...let alone when he has even more core strength a few years later.

Think they might this time but 3 picks within 25 in strong depth draft is better than 1 gun player IMO
With that (use the 3 picks) as the minimum position, how about 2 picks in r1?

If Crows put Melb 2018 r1**, Carl 2018 r2 and Crows 2019 r1 on the table to whoever finishes bottom for 2018 pick 1 and we get it, we go into 2018 with pick 1 and our own r1.

(** assuming we finish higher than Melb)

Really?

Who are the absolute guns of the competition at the moment? Danger, Martin, Franklin, Josh Kelly?

Pretty sure they are all top picks.

Go back a generation and you have pendelbury, Hodge, Judd, Selwood etc.

All pretty much top picks.

I think what you're trying to say is that there are still some diamonds in the rough if you look.

There are some Josh Kennedy's some Rory Sloane's, but chances of getting a gun are much higher with a higher pick.

How many duds though is my point. Of course the odds are better. Our top two players this year pick 23 and a rookie. Then Rory 40. Fyfe. It’s a crapshoot.

I dont watch a ton of youth footy, but have watched highlights of kids leading up to the draft for the last 10-15 years and never been as impressed in 2 minutes of footage as what i was with this kid.

You don't need to watch a stack to know this kid will be a star. Remember he was a bottom ager in this footage

Outside of the SA talent what other names will be in the first round?
Potentially Sam Walsh [Vic], Max King [Vic], Jack Bytel [Vic], Jye Caldwell [Vic], Bailey Scott [Qld F/S], Tarryn Thomas [Tas], Ian Hill [WA], Riley Bowman [Vic], Jarrod Cameron [WA] off the top of my head, there's likely a few others. Jeffcrowe

I'd hate for us squander such an opportunity as we have in a strong draft for the sake of just one player. There are no guarantees in drafting and even if you do get lucky there's still a chance that player may not live up to their full potential due to circumstances outside their control, i.e. injuries. As exciting as it is to go chasing an early draft pick, if next year's draft is as good as what's being predicted I'd rather not put all our eggs in one basket and instead go to the draft with as many first round (and close to first round) picks as we can get. By the time our eldest players are reaching their end these guys will be ready to go as replacements, which hopefully could help us extend our time at the top end of the ladder. Besides, one or more of those players could still end up being a star.

Sure there are duds.

You said absolute guns rarely come from top picks that's all.

If you said top picks don't necessarily turn out to be absolute guns, I would have agreed.

Do you see the difference?

Sam walsh is a gun mid. Already racking up huge numbers as an underager. Really like the look of him and performed very well in u18s champs.

Caldwell and bytel sound very good as well.

King twins tipped both to go in top 5,

If we can get one of Rankine, King x 2, Walsh, Lukosious, Caldwell or Bytel, that’s a VERY good result at this stage.

Rozee is the most realistic target at this point in time, though, which is still great, Rozee’s a gun

Chase Jones ( Tas) , Nick Blakey ( NSW) , Caleb Graham ( Qld ) Ben King ( Vic) , Zane Barzen ( Vic C ) , Matthew Walker ( NSW ) etc etc

But 6 good SA kids at this stage which could double easily

The beauty of next yrs draft is you don't need to trade up for 1 player

The more picks in top 40 the better
