We could have had both

How do you figure? We didn't have a chance at either - we didn't have enough to trade to GWS to get Hogan in the mini draft, nor could we get McCarthy once he was drafted before out first pick.

Because if GWS didn't pick him I'm sure we were going to. And freo flew hogan to perth to discuss his future a couple of years ago. Then getting Paul Roos screwed it all

Round 18 Sliding Doors...

I didn't realise there was a current rumour and god knows what it'd take on top of our first round pick but with Pearce developing so well in the back line and a good spread of midfield options I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Interesting point made on the GWS board (not really in relation to McCarthy) but future draft picks now being tradable.

I wouldn't put a cent on the rumour and so this is just random rambling in the interest of discussion and the promotion of procrastination for work I should be doing.

Our first pick this year, never going to get it done.
1st pick and player... GWS fans say Fyfe, ours say Silvia.

1st Draft pick this year and next

Now I love Freo's mantra of the last few years of never trade out of the first round and so that'd be way ****ing stupid but considering everything points to Freo having to pay overs for him (contract, form and interest) and we're likely talking picks around 15-18, if he was to pass the Ross Lyon interview I'd give it a solid maybe.

If they give us some 2nd rounders in return I'd do it in a heart beat.

Yeah I was thinking about something like that, even if it took some swapping we could end up with our first two picks in mid 20s and late 30s for two seasons. It'll be interesting to see who's willing to risk the future picks come trade time.

Yeah, this is the only way I'd even think of it. You'd want some mid level 2nd round picks in return just to make sure we're not going too deep in the draft over the next few years. We do that, and then we're talking. Having said that ...

My guess is that we wouldn't be one of the clubs doing that sort of thing though, except maybe with loose change with lower picks. If history is anything to go by, Bond and the team would be too conservative to risk future higher picks, even though done well, it can work to your benefit ... but you never know.

Clubs that should do it are ones who are genuinely on the rise - e.g. Bulldogs, Collingwood. They can risk a future higher pick backing themselves to finish deep in the top 8 and use the trade currency to round out their already youthful talented lists. If they're smart, they're the teams that should aggressively use future pick trading.

He's a first year player who's not getting a game. We should not be paying 2 first rounders, especially given we need to replace so many players in the next 2 seasons.

Is he injured? Or just wasn't picked?
Unknown.
Most think as it is his 1st year and as we could be fighting towards the end of the year for finals that he is just being rested/managed.
He seemed out of sorts the last few games he played so thats my thought as well.

Either way, the kid is class and will look great in purple, alongside Jetta and Hogan... * May be talking from my posterior.

Was interested in him but not really any more, he's too lazy. Hogan is a good comparison. Based on the last month +, I can see why he's dropped. If we could get either one tho' I'm sure they would develop better with us than their current clubs.

Sorry mate but as a GWS member I have to disagree. Over here the giants have a very different game plan to freo. It is not as heavily based around locking the ball in the forward line with tackling.

In a freo team under Ross then yes MCCarthy would look lazy, but under Leon, as long as he is kicking goals he is doing ok
