So about a month after finishing his first preseason. No idea if he's happy or homesick but I doubt many 19 year old recruits would have felt comfortable saying no at a time when they're still trying to show that they can be an AFL player.

If he's homesick why did he sign a contract extension?
He hadn't played a game to show his wares at AFL level yet, as soon as a player shows something and the option to go home appears the homesickness starts.

So about a month after finishing his first preseason. No idea if he's happy or homesick but I doubt many 17 year old recruits would have felt comfortable saying no at a time when they're still trying to show that they can be an AFL player.

That's the key of the players management though, he was 19 when he signed the extension but his manager should've known if he was home sick, Pattons injury more than likely got him games earlier than most thought but I was hearing that he was very good before and after the draft . Still hard for a 19 year old to knock back a contract, smart work by the Giants though get him signed before to many afl games.

Yeah, but Patton's started edging him out, his form is down and he can start crowing about how he's homesick, so we have more to work with.

I think McCarthy and Hogan come out of contract at the same time? Is that right? If so, I know who I'd rather be chasing first.
Sorry, but there is actually no evidence he is remotely home sick. I know two keen GWS supporters who say they have only heard he deadset loves the place. His form is a second year forward, who had some injuries in his first year. Im sure he wouldnt expect to play every game. The Giants would love to see how a McCarthy works in tandem with Cameron/Patton. McCarthy matched up on the third best tall defender seems like a deadset winner.

We don't need evidence. He doesn't even need to be homesick. We just have to advise him, 'If you want to fasttrack coming home, you just need to start saying you're homesick'. Isn't that how it works?

I think that's way overs for Cam, although I think he'll be awesome. You package that up for a Hogan.
Talk is that future picks will be locked to a position after they're traded. There's no way GWS would accept two picks from about 15-18 for McCarthy. Upgrade one of those into the top 10 and we are a chance. I highly doubt GWS would want any of our players either. Ours are either too old or are rated similarly or lower than their multiple first rounders.

Just an important woman in his life having him on a plane back to Perth every chance he gets..
With respect, if that woman (who gets brought up in this area often) was that important, she'd be over there with him! Melbourne would find her any job she wanted or had her in her choice of uni!

Except if Jesse is coming home.

Scary to think GWS could make the finals this year and then have 3 or more 1st round draft picks for the next couple of years (if a few of the big trades do happen).

A lot to like about the team now and lots of new talent to come yet.

She's still got some time to wait then, a lot can happen in a small amount of time......... Hope your right though (for her sake and ours)
It isn't like being Jesse Hogan's girl is the defining feature of her life that she will follow him everywhere while he follows his dream so I expect them to have the plan. Whether that is waiting for her to finish study here or for him to come home, who knows.

Absolutely agree, life doesn't wait for anyone though..... As we were![emoji41]

In fairness you have just quoted an article about how Hogan wants to be a one club player, where he says 'he missed Perth at times" and that when he is homesick the club sends him home for a while. Hardly a direct quote stating he wants to return home permanently, but rather a comment that even when he is homesick the club has processes in place to help him.

Where have I said he wants to come home?
