I think you will be surprised how absolute little it plays a part. Its a professional sport and draftees need to be mentally prepared to go anywhere. I will never knock a club for backing themselves in unless the club has an out, like its a 50% choice, like for like situation or in the case of JHF when Adelaide offered NM a godfather offer and they not only turned it down, it was revealed they didnt even speak to JHF until almost draft day. But a club should 100% always take the best player available to them for the role they are looking for. From there its up to the clubs to keep them. If we all start operating in fear, then we will get a state of origin situation where everyone just sticks to their home state. Which is pathetic.
