Yes to this, I loved what he was doing at the Dogs, being patient and playing a long game doesn't seem to garner much support in footy anymore though.

I thought the Dalhaus leaving rumours only came about after McCartney was sacked?

In any case he hasn't done much since he left Wings, not to mention that one legged gold digger he married.
They said he was a better coach than Longmire but I guess that would be putting the McCartney before the Horse.

This is the same bloke that was an assistant at Geelong and their players past and present raved on about how good a teacher and assistat coach he was .

Blokes like Ling, Mooney, Harley , Bartel and former coach Bomber Thompson can't speak highly enough about the job McCartney did to help the success at the Cattery.

He goes to the Dogs and try's to implement some discipline and structure and developed the young talent there and the soft **** senior players ( who have never tasted or got anywhere near success ) crack the shits and have major dummy spits because their non accountable status quo is disrupted .

As Jack Elliot once described the Dogs " A Club with a sad and tragic history."

I don't hold it against Mcartney that he wasn't able to break the shackles of the nepotistic boys club that has been holding the Doggies back for years / decades.

The WB board should have backed the coach and traded out all the spineless soft ***** and given the coach more draft picks to mould and develops so side that could grow together as a contender .

Not a national-level worthy club like a few of their fellow Melbourne based counterparts. It's bullshit that they're continually spared at the expense of the legitimately worthy clubs.

Yes for me. Would be nice to have his experience in our coaching box, and he seems to work great with the kids. Could also use his toughness on our lazy blokes like Hill and Wellingham.

I think people are mistaking what happens at the Western Bulldogs for the things that happen at a successful club.

I'd rather take the word of past and current players at Geelong who couldn't speak highly enough about the bloke over the players at the Western Bulldogs who tried to lecture Jason Akermanis on what it takes to be successful.

Truth is there's a difference in a Senior Coach and an Assistant. McCartney as an assistant would be given a specific task for the year, something he did was aplomb at Geelong.

Don't see why we wouldn't want someone who's been successful as an assistant.

Makes more sense than targeting someone who's just retired and has no coaching experience whatsoever.

On McCartney, the story I kept hearing is that he was too blunt with the post-season player interviews, and this caused the dissension. He was provided feedback by the board that he needs to work on his communication/interpersonal skills as clearly it's a weakness of his. If that is the crux of the story, I don't see any issue in bringing him as an assistant coach (not necessarily by us).

On the Eagles appointing him, it should only be done if he satisfies a need that we have. We shouldn't be creating a role for him just because he is good at what he does, and 12 months into the new coaching panels tenure is probably too early to be sacking assistants to bring him in.

Just heard that the Doggies are going to do away with the role of team captain and will in 2015 be appointing a shop steward of behalf of the players.
