You mean like threaten him?

I guess it might work. What if he says no, do we have to go through with it. Other perspective coaches might think we've lost our nerve......
A coach that coaches from the boundary line, is that an "other perspective coach?"

...Sorry BD, that was mean. And I am all for threatening Roos for any number of reasons.

I think it's silly to want a coach that has made it known he dislikes our club. He is one guy i don't want, we would be subjected to dull defensive style of football.

Is that the royal "most of us"? Please point out where i have disrespected anyone? The vitriol directed to anyone that wasn't part of the keep ratts brigade, was very disrespectful. I learned a long time ago, that insulting someone that is basically just words on a vdu is pretty pointless. Make out of that what you may.
That's OK, that's your opinion. I think he is a great coach and I don't really want him at Carlton.

Basil, I don't know what the percentage of that might be. There was vitriol and disrespect both ways this morning, I'm not sure how it is relevant here though. It seemed harsh to suggest that some people here perhaps have no clue, after all, many are regulars here; if I read it too harshly then I apologise.

Let's not derail the thread with this, I simply thought it could be more forgiving of differing opinions, and it still had the right to be discussed fairly.

I would hope to GOD that they sounded out Roos before they pulled the trigger on ratts. And I hope to GOD that Roos didn't say "hey sticks I'm available in 2014" cause if he did and ratt''s still got the ass then sticks, swanny the whole board need to be wiped! I hope he said "yer heck it, I'm in" but I seriously doubt this and MM will be our man, for better or for worse!

I don't know why the majority have a hard on for Milhouse.....this is a bloke that single handedly derailed Collingwood's season last year because of his ego.

Why no mention of Choco Williams, seriously a good coach of a club that was under resourced and a financial basket case, took them too a premiership and backed it up in 07. taking them too a grand final when everyone else had written them off. He probably stayed at Port for 1 year too long which tarnished his image a little.......... He's currently at GWS doing good things with the young list.

Please Roos throw your hat into the ring.....Mick Malthouse's life resembles a narcissistic soapie these days...His last melodramatic year at Collingwood all played out in the media...He's already talking about how his wife was in tears because of all this speculation about the Carlton job....Hey how about Ratten's wife...

I'm not impressed by Roos in the slightest. Hearing his ramblings in the media this year has totally changed my opinion of him. Lives in a Swans vacuum and barely seems to watch any non-Swans games, other than those he is forced to commentate (this, however, doesn't stop him from primarily talking about Sydney during said non-Sydney games).

I thought he would be great replacing Hird on On The Couch, but he actually appears to be quite a simpleton... He just disguises it by gushing jargon and relying on the footballing 'authority' he is afforded for being a premiership coach.

Roos was target number one Jeanne Pratt and Bruce Mathieson desperately want him and offered around $1.6m but he turned it down. With his son doing year 12 next year can't see him moving away from NSW.

No to Chocco, No to Eade. That would be a massive step backwards. It's Malthouse or Roos for me. Would love to see Roos in Navy Blue. The man is all class and the culture he instilled at Sydney has been amazing even now long after he's left. He doesn't believe in "Rebuilding". i love that attitude.

Just a quick one, is Bomber Tompson still in the mix?

I agree, just dont like him in the media..rambles on and generally comes across at hating Carlton

I would prefer Choco. I believe it will be MM. Who knows?

Could we do another Freo / Lyons from last year, and pinch an existing senior coach from another club?
Unfortunstely, I don,'t give our board (insert Sticks name here) enough credit or street cred to do that.

Not easy to do. I would love to get Woosha but why would he leave the club he captained to premierships and coached to a premiership, when they are still contenders? I wouldn't poach anybody else except for Chris Scott.

If you have watched on da couch over the past two years you wouldn't want Roos he has lost all passion

In fact I know for a fact in the off season he was told to lift his game as he was hardly watching a game

Roos would be Malcolm blight to the saints all over again his hunger is gone

We all know MM is signed and sealed.
Roos doesn't want to coach anyway. My opinion of him has changed since he joined the media, he has become a real w***er now....his son's final year of school sounds like a phoney excuse too.

Just can't get excited for Roos at all.
Don't like the way he coached out the Swans and not sure he has what it takes to deliver again.

I'd sooner have Malthouse, yet would be happiest if Gavin Brown came through against all the odds.

I wouldn't be getting too excited about Malthouse either Harks, how old is he 60? He'll be under more pressure than ever to get this side up and about and winning flags and if they don't improve under him and go backwards instead he might have a heart attack dealing with all the stress.

I will be very critical of him if this side doesn't come to play every week. I will treat him the way Ratten was treated. He said he wasn't going to dance on anyone's grave, then as soon as it's obvious Ratts was under pressure he's there to do a back flip and start pumping himself up. Sticks even acknowledged this had something to do with their decision with that lame pause of his.

This is all bull****

We will probably finish 5th next year with a nicer run with injuries and it wont be because of the coach.

Do people really think the coach has all that much influence?

Nah obviously not, I reckon they should go on next year without a coach, I mean they don't have much of an influence anyway right, so why waste a million bucks?

Don't like your chances on Roos, It was intimated to me second hand one of the departing board members is stuck hard and fast in the Malthouse camp.

Not that it necessarily reflects reality, but when contacted by journalists today, Roos gave a firm "no" regarding coaching in 2013.

Also recall a player on one of the footy shows (can't remember which one) saying that he simply can't see Roos coaching again because "his hair's growing back, and he's really loving the relaxed lifestyle and his lattes".

I agree with posters above - given the latest round of comments by those concerned, you can almost lock in Malthouse. By the way, have you checked the odds? It's Malthouse to take over at $1.02.

Well Barrett said that although Roos has said again today, that he would not coach in 2013, that he said he would take Kernahan's call. Sticks was adamant that nobody at Carlton had approached Malthouse yet and that we want to talk to all experienced coaches. So Malthouse, Thompson, Williams, Roos ... all are getting a call. It was also said that Jeanne Pratt wants Roos.

Surprised there isnt more talk about Mark Williams. Premiership coach. Great record. His last season was a disaster but the whole club was stuffed really. Why aren't people talking about Williams?
Roos hates Carlton, every time he can sink the boots in he does. No way he'll coach us.
I'm cautiously optimistic about Malthouse but do worry he does a Pagan and think he's god and acts like a tool. The way he brought in Mick Martyn then forced Ratts and Braddles out of the club was disgraceful.
