Operation: Harry Taylor

To say the cats would look ordinary if they did not allow Harry to go home would just be plainer wrong.

I completely agree with you ;) Chalk that up to an SEN presenter trying to get himself quoted in tomorrows paper.

I'd love to see him at West Coast but any deal going over to WA would see the Cats lose out. As highly as we rate our Mitch Browns potential, he still can't break into our lineup so chucking a reserves player and a draft pick for Taylor won't work. The question comes back to, what would be appropriate for both parties?

he is a defender. i am sorry, but unless he is a running half back, he isnt exactly a priority. i dont want to hear he "can do that". he can. just not enough. he isnt a priority. we have defenders. sure he might be better but he isnt a million times better. definately not worth breaking bank for.

i also like it how everyone is suggesting he stays at geelong for 2 years and when he is older go back to wa. must be freo because wc have never been anyones retirement plan.

You can hear the interview that sparked off the latest interest here http://www.rsn.net.au/audioplayer/1369097784.mp3

The interview was conducted under his guise as ambassador for gambling awareness week. The comments were made straight after he reflected how his own kids may be affected by having gambling shoved down their throats so he was probably in a more reflective mood. I'm reasonably confident he'll stay at Geelong. One thing is certain, if he does go, it will be for the right reasons and not for some commercial inducement.

Apologies to you and the Cats supporters for this knee-jerk reaction.

In my opinion, he is the best CHB in the comp, and I love watching him play, along with several of his teammates.

If he wants to come we'd be silly not to have a crack. I'd think Brown and or Schofield would need to be in the trade somewhere plus probably a need to give up a first round pick like we did to get Sharrod

Getting ahead of myself but a back line with McKenzie, Taylor and when required Glass on the talls along with Waters and Hurn is pretty damn jiz worthy

It's need to be if we neglect to draft more midfielders.

How long would it take a middling to low first round pick midfielder to actually mature into the team?

In comparison to the value Taylor provides the team now and likely in the future (His continued success rate is a heckuva lot more likely than a draft pick at that position panning out to becoming a stud).

Nah i'm with EH. We need an influx of mids more than we need Taylor. Our bookends are decent enough as it is. Get better mids and we won't need to rely on Glass so much anyway.

The ignored factor to this argument is that there is unlikely to be legitimate difference makers available for what Taylor would cost.

It's all well and good to say 'Lets target Daisy' when there is pretty much no chance of him moving on. In the meantime we'll miss out on a legit stud though for a dream...

I think Stokes would make a difference. And I doubt he'd cost as much as Taylor. Right now Taylor is at his highest value ever, and I don't think he addresses our deficiencies enough to justify what it might cost.

He would rarely need to go forward as much as he does with Geelong IMO. We don't need a Hunter anymore - we need someone to get it into the ****ing forward 50.

I would love Stokes - What are the chances of getting him at a reasonable value though?

Sorta just proved my point - All well and good tossing out names, but if they aren't within a stones throw of happening, what's the point of discussing it in comparison? Though it's just as likely there has been talk I'm oblivious to...

I thought that's the plan B we have been wanting

I think you need to open both eyes.

Would you accept Cale Hooker or Tayte Pears + pick 10-15 for Gaff?

Didn't think so.

If Gaff was wanting out to return to Vic for family reasons and that's the best deal we could get yes.

People always want more but you can only trade what you have.

I'd trade Gaff + a pick to get a Bennell or O'Meara.

If Gaff wanted to return to Victoria and was out of contract, then there would be Victorian clubs lining up, and looking at the current ladder picks 2, 3, 4, 6 & 9 are all likely to go to Vic clubs...

Anyway, Gaff's not going anywhere. Unlike Taylor... :)

As would I. I doubt Gold Coast would see things the same way, since they had picks 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9... and let Gaff go to us at 4.

Where will we finish and who's available at that pick isn't know? It will be mid-table in all probabilities.

Looking at who might be available in the draft form picks 7-13 at this stage i think it's a pretty clear cut decision.

Even if we lost Brown for StKilda's second round pick which could be pick 23 or something id take three midfielders/ flankers.

Stokes would cost less than Taylor IMO. Teams crying out for KPP might wish to pay a lot more for Taylor than they would for a smallish mid.

Stokes a pretty average player IMO. Don't know why we would chase him or what he would add.
He's arguably better than some of our current mids. He's been in great form since moving into the middle full time this year.

EDIT:
Stokes 2013 averages: 27 disposals, 6 marks, 4 I50s, 1 goal.

Has kicked a bag of three goals once and two goals on two occasions already this year. We could do with an extra attacking mid.

Don't really disagree with you, but who would he displace in the team?

You misinterpreted what I was trying to say. If Gaff wanted to return to Victoria I would be happy to get whatever we did from a Vic team and add our first rounder for O'Meara or Bennell.

I know Gaff wouldn't go to the Gold Coast and agree they may not be interested.

Gaff + Brown to the Saints would come close to netting the Saints 1st + 2nd round picks this year. We may need to throw in our 3rd rounder.

I am starting to be concerned that Gaff is a bit small and gets pushed around. A few more years in the gym may fix this.

Don't really disagree with you, but who would he displace in the team?
Dalziell, Hutchings, Sheppard, A Selwood, Embley, Butler... I think he would just join the midfield rotation and allow S Selwood to focus on tagging, or allow Kerr to spend more time on the bench.

I agree though - it just seems like our side is so rigid with S Selwood, Priddis and Kerr seemingly unable to play anywhere else. I don't really know where our side is heading

is this matthew stokes you refering to? he wil be free agent come end of this year.. so he is all yours if you can satisfy his demands.

off topic, is there some competition between eagles supporters on brad scott avators, cause i find some of them quite amusing
