I was impressed with Haynes and Frost in that game, though neither would address our issues.

Few of my thoughts on recent posts.
1. Academy - I doubt that our academy players this year will cost us a first round pick. Lot of water to go under the bridge yet but in a draft full of projected top line KP talent I don't think anyone finishing below us is going to be looking to lose their first pick. Someone after us may but that will just cost us a second round pick. Dawson would be the main one this year from all I've read and it would be unlikely that someone would offer him a top 6 pick (if we finished where we did this year). Given our lack of KPF even if they did we would be inclined to pass I would think.

2. GWS - will be holding onto their KPPs. They have a surplus of mids and utilities and those will be the ones to be let go to other clubs. We would be well served looking to poach one of those from them. The only thing working against us with GWS is that they have drafted mainly vic metro which certainly doesn't work in our favour. Agree with POBT someone like WHE or a Tim Golds may become available or a second line forward like Jaksch.

3. Other Forwards - Reid is an interesting one but hasn't really strung enough games together. He signed a long term contract and then Sydney turned around and signed Tippett and Buddy, so not sure what that signals. Apart from that I'm not sure, not a lot out there that seems realistic. Reiwoldt is an interesting one, something not right there at tigerland with him at the moment. Could be a genuine chance to want out of there and Melb perhaps if their season doesn't full-fill its promise. Undecided whether I would want him at the moment though but you cant deny his talent when he's on.

Can I just enquire about the name of this thread/ operation.

Are the kids using 'hot mother' as a euphemism for something football related or are we actually going to base our recruiting on the attractiveness of players maternal parent.

NB- During the mothers day round last year they showed players with their mother on the big screen at the Gabba, I can't specifically recall exactly who had a 'hot mother' but I also don't remember any particualr correlation between Maternal Hotness and onfield performance.

It's just a line from Arrested Development.

.

The kids are alright.

I think any player we are talking to, needs to have a clause that we can check their mothers out and you know rate them out of ten. Based on a variable list of attributes (overall fitness, rack, skankiness etc.). Any player willing to go through this really wants to play for us.....OR he doesn't like his mum and is not a MUMMY's BOY. BOOM SHANKA.

I don't reckon anyone will get a look in at Haynes. He seems to be very highly rated at GWS, and has found his niche as a rebounding defender who is excellent in the air for his height. I remember he was being linked to us at pick #8 when we took Longer but the Giants nabbed him at #7. How different things might've been.

Frost can play at both ends. I really think he'd work great at the spearhead of the forwardline. He gets to contests and is not afraid of putting his body on the line. He's just not really a natural footballer. He'd be the same kind of forward that Daniel Merrett has been for us in recent years, particularly as he can chop out in the ruck when required.

When Patton and co from the Giants contracts are almost out there will be a huge bidding war for their services... we could just sneak in and nab one of their young mids that are having trouble breaking into the team. O'Rourke, Sumner and WHE could be good gets.
I don't know if we can sneak and steal anybody, past attempts to get a big name have been almost clouseauesque (roos)

I wouldn't think Sumner, WHE and O'Rourke to name a few are big names. They are not even best 22 at their clubs.
Hard to say who is best 22 at GWS because they seem to rest players left right and centre. In a years time will they be? I would think WHE would be.

Any time a top 10 draftee is potentially on the trade table, it is big news. Polec is a prime example.

I'm not sure it will work if Kerr shouts at trade time "look over there, it's Jon Patton!" and then sneaks a contract under GWS's nose.

The fact that he isn't trying it is an obvious sign of his incompetence...

How do you know he isnt trying? He could be in Pattons ear for ages we just dont know it.

Tongue in cheek. :) There was a lot of uproar last year about no sign of trade/contract discussions meaning discussions weren't/didn't happen, as opposed to just not happening in public.

How about operation 'hot carl'...

Clubs aren't going to bid just to keep us honest, lest we call their bluff. They will bid what they are prepared to give up to get a player on their books and we only have to match it with our next pick. If someone wants to bid a first rounder before our pick for Hammelman or Dawson then we will weigh up whether they will be the appropriate pick for our position in the draft. I don't think we will overpay just because they are a Queenslander, just as North didn't overpay for Luke McDonald, or Essendon didn't overpay for Joe Daniher. If they are genuine first rounders we will likely have a Jack Viney situation, and if they are both good enough to attract high bids we will end up the winners.

That trade rumours footy page on facebook has us signing Patton at the end of the year. Apparently been in his ear for a while now. Obviously a terrible source for information but who knows maybe he is right.

Obviously true.

He models his game on Brown and gets the chance to play with him for one season before getting #16 on his back with a traditional lion on his front.

Who wouldn't want that??
:)

So have we worked out who is going to go the the under 18's this year to scout out which players have a hot mum?

I seem to remember patfullfankezz suggesting that her mum was pretty cute (good genetics!) maybe Patton can stay with them?
