On pure form Brown deserves a contract in 2014.

However with the 6 compulsory delistings at the end of 2013 it is an very difficult task with the list management.

It just shows how brutal AFL football is.
If Buddy does come to Cold Coast, what an amazing Forward line they will have.

Campbell has had a great month of football, my concern is do you let a kid that could be a 10 year player go to keep a guy that has 1 more year at best. Not an easy decision for Ashcroft and team.
I think that improving the team for the future should come before improving the clubs current situation.

If Bock is fit enough for senior football after the break he would be a very good fit in at full forward.

Gumbleton? Power forward maybe not but hes a key forward and Josh Kennedy type forward, has been in ripping from in the VFL, some good games at AFL level kicking a few however lack of opportunity might see him move on for a longer deal and more money, GC probably can offer both and need a key forward as youve said.

Im not sure what we would want in return, any players possibly humming around that could be on a possible move? or unsigned?

We probably need a quality small forward (Matera)*

Or a dangerous user (T.Mckenzie)*

*Gumbleton IMO isnt worth them though, ie we (Essendon) would need to give up far more, unless they want to move to victoria.

Trying to rid our list of list cloggers. Picking up an unproven forward would not be ideal for us.

Gumbleton has truckloads of talent, no doubting it, but I think for us the only players that we will look like recruiting are proven game changers. If we can't get them it will be a matter of sticking to our top end draft picks and hopefully upgrading some more.

Fair enough i dont think there are any game changers that you can afford or on offer so the thread is probably pointless

Jack Martin sounds like Bennell V2.

So he sounds amazing.

Saw them both regularly as juniors.

Bennell was brilliant. Martin looked comfortably better though. Not a downside to Bennell, but Jack was just so good. Rarely beaten, even against older, bigger bodies, but when he was, he seemed to have the footy brains to figure out a way to still be dangerous.

Bennell was a late bloomer similar to stephen hill in his first year of colts he was in and out of the side before storming home that season with sone great form and too everyones surprise did well in the umpire votes. but the next year he was oustanding with his u18 carnival and league performances for a poor peel side. martin has always been oustandings hes slightly better and will probably continue his way in the afl league.

id be dissapointed if he does. imagine the flack we'd cop? we'll already be accused of buying a premiership, let alone buying franklin as well.

we dont need him. IMO he is just a front runner. id prefer to draft 3 kids and teach them.

I'm glad that you don't want him ;). Just have to take issue with you calling him a front runner - unfortunately a few of our players left themselves open to this accusation after last year's GF, but Buddy wasn't one of them.

The Hawks have offered Franklin a deal worth $4.5 million over four years, enough to make him clearly their highest-paid player.
GWS is yet to formally offer Franklin a contract, but Hawthorn believes the package eventually presented to him will be as large as $12 million over six seasons.

So what I want to get going is, instead of getting Franklin who would you rather have for that kind of money? Let's play pretend and say we had a million dollars a year to take to spend on FAs.

For my money, looking over the 2014 list here:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-06-21/clubs-eye-2014-free-agents

I'd much rather put a 2 year offer out to guys like Todd Goldstein out at North or Bryce Gibbs at Carlton. Just stabilize positions we're seemingly injury prone at the moment with some harder bodies and phase out some older FAs.

I'm hearing some guy named Shannon Jackson will try his guts out for a million a year

And that's quite a lot of guts!

Nah, too many sex scandals surrounding this guy :D

We'll really see whether it's the money or a sea change that Buddy desires most. Maybe it's neither. If he does leave though, you can't call him a mercenary though.
