after the year 2001, how has everyones opinion of the lions side changed (if it has)?

Do you like the side more now at the end of the season? Has your opinion lessened because of something someone said/did?

I'm just curious what people from other clubs think.

This is not bandwagoning, it's just like me saying i like port more now at the end of the year then i did at the start.

so what do ya think?

I thought that they were by far the best and most consistent team of 2001 with a humble and intelligent coach (unlike the coach of a certain other team based in Melbourne's Northern suburbs) the most lethal midfield seen for years and probably the most inspirational player in the league in Michael Voss.
They are my tip for the 2002 premiership.

I think this season reconfirmed my view that Lethal Leigh is a footballing genius.

Of course he learnt it all at Hawthorn;)

There are certain players at Brisbane I hate with a passion (well, at least their on-field persona), but I'm the first to admit they have the best team in the league, and deserve their premiership.

I had them pegged as under-achievers, a team that looked great on paper, but still hadn't achieved the ultimate, but that has obviously changed. It is a good thing for the game in Queensland, and fantastic for the old Lion supporters. Well done.

I think I don't like the side more now ;)

I still think they're AFL hookers who are handed a lot of the money that the big 4 teams actually earn, but that aside, there's no doubting they're a powerful force right now. They definitely deserved to win it this year.

I think they were the worthiest winners of the 2001 flag. 16/17 wins in a row is a remarkable feat. They're midfield is brilliant, and no problems up forward or down back, either. Wouldn't mind having a couple of them at the Crows.

Having said that, we were the last team to beat them, at the GABBA, too.

:D :D :D :D :D I demand a re-match. :D
Sheedy said Brisbane were the better team "on the day", lol.

Why don't Brisbane challenge Essendon to best of three?

:D

I used to think they were pretenders. Good enough to get into the 8, but not that good.

My sister told me that they were a bloody good side and I told her I'd believe that when they win the flag.

Actually I believed it before they won the flag (about the begining of the finals series), but there's my answer.

Nothing against Brisbane, great team well led by Voss who is a great player and captain unlike Golden Boy Hird who wouldnt know what being humble and gracious was...but the AFL wont be happy until every interstate team has a flag...my bet would be Sydney or Port within the next five years.
Thats why i value the flags that North win cos they are honest and hard earned.

Go roos in 2002

Didn't rate them at the start of the year...but full credit to them, definitely the best side in 2001, and 16 wins on the trot is a fantastic effort.

I don't hate them - I was really happy for all the old Fitzroy supporters who went through such heartache (and even the Bears supporters.)

However, I won't be so happy if the AFL continues to ply them with generous concessions year after year. But they definitely earned this premiership.

This year their depth of talent wasnt really stretched (similar to the Dons run last year).

Most of their core elite are now up around the 100 game mark, the expeiriences of the last few seasons, the steadiness of Matthews ( a much improved coach from his Magpie days it seems) and a more professional approach has made them into a very very good side indeed.

I guess the challenge now is for them to remain focussed on their futures and not drift back into the 'sun and sand' lifestyle that has been previously attributed to there lack of success up until this years Flag.
