When I think of Judd I think of strength over the ball and a remarkable ability to influence 90% of stoppages and 50/50 contests in some positive & very physical way.

In that regard Voss is probably the most similar player to Judd but in a different way for a similar result that I can think of.

Hodge once he has a really good pre season will be similar in influence on a more routine basis, right now it's for a quarter or for a half of football compared to a full game from Judd & Voss.
I find Hodge is much more of a slower player than Judd.

The thing I've noticed about Judd (and I'm sure you all have too) is that he's been dominanting 4th quarters when the game is there to be won. I think it's pretty obvious that he's still working his way back to full fitness and is playing within himself....give him a few more months and I think those fourth quarters are going to become the norm.

Again did some nice things, but was far from having a major influence on the game last night.

One thing that disturbs me is how often a player will ignore his plea for the ball and go and do something dumb. Kruezer marks on the forward flank in the third quarter and Judd streams past - completely free of a tag - and holds out his hands imploring Krooze to handball it to him. Instead, Kreuzer wheels around bombs into a contest at CHF and the ball is turned over. Had Judd received the ball, there were two forwards one on one (can't remember who, might have been Fisher and possibly Fev back near the goal square) who I'd back Judd to pick out.

In many other instances to the point where the commentators pick it up, players are ignoring Judd. Doesn't Ratts tell them to give him the ball?

As HBF pointed out, our players are still getting used to having Judd around. Also, as per your example, Kreuzer would have been constantly told to get the ball to the centre corridor and he did that... unfortunately, he missed a gilt edged chance of getting the ball over the CHF block and into a forward where we would have had a better chance to score...

Sorry, but I don't see that as an excuse. He wheeled and bombed blindly rather than a little give to a bloke who's pay packet demands that he gets the ball when he wants it.

And HBF says players are learning to give him room. My point is that when any skilled mid-fielder is running past a ruckman, the big unit should give off the ball. That it was Judd makes it more perplexing.

Dont take this as criticism (I know I started a thread that he is struggling - by his standards) but at least 13 of his 26 poss were Handball received so you cant say we are not giving it to him. On one hand, handball received are cheap possessions but on the other they take courage to keep running - when he finds his after-burners again he will get even more

Yep, I don't for an instant suggest that noone ever gives him the ball - he's usually jsut outside a stoppage waiting for the little handpass out of the pack. Anyway, I was jsut curious that he would be ignored at all.

I actually think that there was a number of times when players seen Juddy and just gave him the ball and put him under enormous pressure when they would of been better advised to do something with it themselves, We need to learn to block and shepherd more effectively for Juddy like the Eagles did as well as back ourselves a bit more.
