Denty has fitted in well at Hawthorn and whilst not dominating he has been pretty steady when given a chance, what do Bully supporters think of him, why do you think he was delisted? He doesnt have any obvious faults, just wondering, thanks

Lots of guys ahead of him for a spot in the team basically. Curley, Contessa, Hahn, Brown etc. Hadn't played a lot of senior footy in the last couple of years after playing almost all the games in his first two.
Can be a little erratic with his foot disposal under pressure. Kicks 'up and under' a lot when not under pressure ( I wouldn't like to be underneath some of his 'passes').
Is a real tough nut and runs straight at the ball.

I actually thought he was a dud when he first arrived in 97. First few games were ordinary (though I do note that my view at the time wasn't necessarily in the majority). But I quickly changed my mind. Very good in 97 and 98. Disappointing 99 and 00. I guess the club decided he wasn't going to get back to the previous standard and opted for others.

Also seemed to work the ball out of defence very well with Brad Wira. Never seemed to quite click as well after Wira left. Maybe he just suits playing around a certain style of player.

Good luck to him. But I was happy with the club's decision.

Dent was a solid contributer for the dogs. He was quite a good kick but seemed a bit slow in decision making and therfore would be caught holding the ball often. Glad he is doing well at Hawthorn except when they play us.

BUMP by 10 years......

For anyone interested, Matthew is now the senior coach of the Happy Valley Vikings in the SA Southern Football League. Is a ripper bloke and is making a strong stamp on the club, with players seeming to be playing for him. Can give a great spray when required, but is mostly measured and encouraging of the young team.

Watched his team pull apart a team who really thought they were on the rise (Flagstaff Hill) and do it with discipline, flair and strength.

Very pleased to hear about Denty, he was one of my favourites. Unfashionable, but did the job most weeks. I was disappointed when he went to the Hawks but was pleased in a way that he played his best footy with us after his time at Fitzroy.
I always like to hear about our ex-players and hope they are doing well in life.

Good news :)

Always great to hear about our past players as well.

He , Brad Wirra and Dan Southern never left any energy in the change rooms. Real Team Players.

cheers

We used to call him psycho chicken. Was part of the Squirra,Horse,Croft,Dent,Smith,Kretiuk back line of the late 90's. Some hard nut's in that lot, and a couple of runners

afc9798 enjoyed the update. Thanks for posting. Always liked dent. Jeez we were a hard side in those early Wallace sides.
