Well Played Carlton.

why the f**k are half the clubs getting first round free agency compo picks for absolute spuds that are worth a pick in the 60's at best?
afl haven't bothered to change their secret herbs and spices to reflect the rise in cap space

Tiges actually only got Band 4 for BEllis.

It was technically band 3, a rd 2 pick. But because we were the premiers it was effectively the same as band 4. There were a few tidy footballers drafted between the pick 22 Richmond should have received and the pick 44 they did receive.

Josh Worrell
Charlie Comben
Trent Rivers
Chad Warner

But also combining this pick with others including the Dow pick 21 may have allowed us to trade up and get access to some other valuable players, there were certainly plenty available up the order.

I recall Richmond officials were really unhappy with this compensation pick at the time, and that might indicate they had something in the pipeline that might have amounted to drafting a really good player they had their eyes on.

Cheers. AFL website still says Band 4, but like you said would've been the same .... AS WE WERE FK'N PREMIERS!!!

The year after I think it was Motlop got band-2. Bellis a 5-year deal on around $2.5m, Motlop a 4-year deal on $2m.

The CFL co-ordinated this as I believe that Motlop pick was used to trade for GAJ, so it made that little ‘return home for GAJ’ sob story easy to make happen by giving them band-2 for Motlop.

It’s the same reason their compo package included end of first for Eagles … so they could use that for Starcevich to preserve pick-2 for Allen.

Why do they even pretend they have any form of integrity.? No wonder they didn’t want Gale.

I think the Brandon Ellis v Motlop compo was likely more straightforward than that. The person who was key to deciding that was none other than current Geelong CEO Steve Hocking. This explains perfectly the favourable outcome for Geelong and the adverse outcome for Richmond. No other narrative is required, it was never going to be any different.
