It's one thing about holding a player to a contract, but when it's the captain it's something else entirely. The player will play to the best to their ability if they want to be paid regardless which club they are at. However, leadership and how other players respond are harder to put KPI's to.

Hate to say it but Carlton had a blinder of a trade period .. Hayward, Florent, Ainsworth and 3 first round picks and all they gave up was Curnow and 2nd and 3rd pick in this weak draft(him and Harry never really worked together as a forward line anyway)

Ainsworth and Hayward average more goals per game over the last 3 seasons combined (2.5) than Curnow (2.1)

Not to say that Sydney didn't win too ... you want a Coleman medallist you pay what it takes

Im not as strong on it as you seem but it is concerning to me that he has pretty much gone out and recruited his mates to the coaching group and on the whole it’s an underwhelming group on paper.

The club hasn’t shown a ruthless streak for some time either and the supporter group are pretty passive on the back of huge recent success so he will be given time even if we have a terrible year next season.

Buckley speaks fairly positively about our list and potential so there may have been an opportunity, who knows.
