AFLW Opposition Observation

In the end 85-16 though. What a whooping.

Kinda dread our Round 10 against Brisbane now lol

Yeah just two behinds for a little over three Qtrs of footy is not great for footy or the GC.

Orla O'Dwyer has been an absolute steel for Brisbane.

They took a punt on the Irish woman and hasn't it worked out for them.

Suits their style perfectly. She is super fit and is just everywhere.

Wish she played for us

The gap between the foundation sides and the rest really is out of control. The standard is going up season by season but it's going up equally between all the teams, really to me it's not going to be until a full list turnover for all the sides occur before we get anywhere close to parity in the league. Makes it a bit of a struggle to get fully invested

And she seems to be getting better each week which is frighteningly scary how good she might get. Not a bad player for the younguns to try and model their game around.

I'd like to see the next draft completed with a Pre-season before getting too alarmed. It can't be a cake-walk for new Clubs and they can't decimate the foundation Clubs either - such a fine line based on arguable talent. There is however a case for GC, Rich, WC and StK to get an additional priority pick just to try and give / get some balance. Especially as these new weaker Clubs may well have their lists picked over a little bit.

Personally I think the lists of the four Clubs mentioned should out of bounds this new Club introduction period - why make them any weaker. You might even be able to argue that for Geelong and GWS but they have had more time to build and develop and have specialised regions.

I like this as a possible solution but I can't see them doing it. Also teams like Gold Coast (and West Coast) got to come in and only pick the eyes out of Brisbane (and Fremantle) and we still see the difference being huge so it also might not be as effective as we think

Geelong hanging in there to half time but geez they fumble, remind me of us two seasons ago. They do finish well though

Really need a Bonnie Toogood in the wake of an aging Wakefield - is only 24 - get it done KB

today round 7, 0.5 (5) GWS v Adelaide 3rd lowest score in AFLW history
along with the round 6, 1.1 (7) GWS v Melbourne 5th lowest score in AFLW history
GWS having a very hard time scoring this season
St Kilda heading for equal-worst right now. They get to play each other next week if all goes to plan so that should be a bit of a relief

Yep, foundation clubs are too good for the rest bar North Melbourne. Really difficult to climb up the ladder as it stands if a team doesn’t nail it from the beginning.

Kilda appointing a coach who hasn’t coached at any level. Brilliant Saints!!

If you plant a potato you are not going to get a tomato plant, you are gonna get friggin potatoes!!!

It’s an interesting topic.
I’m not convinced it’s out of control. Expansion clubs have definitely improved. Some foundation clubs are starting to fall away while others remain strong.
Foundation clubs are smashing foundation clubs and some games between foundation clubs and expansion clubs have been close games.

I think we have to be patient. It will even itself out over time. How long did it take for GWS and Gold Coast to be competitive on a regular basis in AFL? That’s playing 22 games in AFL while in AFLW we play less than half that.

One way to make the process quicker is to make sure the last lot of expansion teams don’t get raided by the teams coming in. If Geelong and StKilda lost Prespakis and Patrikios (assuming she gets back) it would be a total disaster.

She lapped the entire squad on a 400m track, doing a 2km time trial during preseason.

I was thinking with teams not playing each other once it would have been better to weight the fixture so expansion teams are more likely to play expansion teams but then you could get big blow outs come finals time

That's bang on and what I suggested in another post - surely the greater minds will see it that way too - make Rich / StK / WC and GC off limits for one season only. It's a tougher call for GWS & Geel, given their extra longevity already (Geelong 1 year - GWS two years)

Not at all surprised. She's just everywhere from the opening bounce to the final siren. Big chance to win your B & F this year. Wasn't she runner up last year?

I'm a bit surprised more fuss isn't made of her. Flying under the radar nicely.

Love her or loath her, Tayla Harris is pretty hard to stop when she is on song.

Melbourne would not have got over the line without her.

Has been a pretty good get for the Dees. Has just let her footy do the talking this season.

How the F did St Kilda lose that game???

Just dumb footy. You would have thought St Kilda were behind and searching for that score to win.

Have the ball multiple times in the last two minutes and absolutely no sense to keep possession and run the clock down.

That’s on the potato they have as a coach.

Just seen the vision - that is why she is so good and why I would have loved her to come to Richmond - hard to see how, but she is worth it!

The news coming out of Princes Park last year about Tayla wasn't crash hot which was actually surprising as they were just shooting themselves in the foot by lowering her trade value. Lots of clubs ended up saying thanks but no thanks.

Hoskings are good pals with Tayla so I am sure Sarah would have been in Sheahan's ear but we said no. Spooked.

In the end Blues sent Tayla to the Dees plus pick 44 in exchange for pick 32. A steal.

Has been noticeably quieter off the field this year. Dees and Tayla have handled this well.
