I think our players would sledge the Ashcrofts less if their name wasn’t so deeply entrenched in our start up, our academy and also the name of the Q-Clash medal...

Must annoy the players immensely to be reminded of Brisbane all the time.

But him winning both Norms is fair. Could have gone to other players, too. But both were fair.

I didn’t care who won the game today, but geez that second half was disappointing. I’ve seen us capitulate like that, too. Absolutely demoralising.

He's turning 34 in a little over two months from now. It's hard to see how Gawn is going to be a part of Melbourne's next premiership run... but I guess you have to tell yourself that when you're in his situation. The moment you stop believing you're working towards a flag is probably the moment you either need to leave the club or retire.

I don't blame him for expressing this thought publicly. All athletes are lying to themselves to some degree because they want to achieve something great and there's often an obstacle in the way of it that can seem insurmountable, but if you don't convince yourself that you can do it then you never will.

In reality, Gawn will probably spend the next few years helping guys like Kalani White become AFL players who can lead the Dees to where they want to go and if he's lucky, Max might find a way to be a part of it. It's similar to Swallow in that he had to wait so long to taste September action and it finally happened for him in what turned out to be his last season as a Sun, but I'm sure there were many times when Dave questioned whether it would ever happen and if he should just take the easy option and leave.

Anyway. I'm looking forward to see what Petracca 2.0 can achieve with us. So exciting!
