Some sad shit posting going on here.

When i was younger we used to call the english "Whingeing Poms".

Now this country has become the whingeing country . I mean FFS what is the big deal - why do people crack it when others get some good news or good luck? Oh thats right its cool to be a critic.

Good luck to them and good on Oprah for making people happy.

I crack the shits when secret government subsidies are being handed out for this ridiculous sideshow.

There's no big deal, that's the point.

The fact that so much hype exists around some TV host visiting the country and bringing out the masses of adoring housewives with nothing better to do than froth at the mouth over the prospect of some free shit and advice on what new release novel to read is pretty darn sad, don't you think?

I'm looking forward to the end of the gushing "What do you think of Australia?" questions.

How little we respect ourselves, hoping some dingbat from Iowa who was lucky enough to be in the audience that day likes the Barrier Reef and cooing like an idiot when they do.

Given the weakness of the US Dollar and the US economy in general, I'd question the value of a marketing exercise like this.

Oprah Winfrey

Does anybody really care that she's in Australia?
I cannot understand, what's all the big fuss about her.
Does anybody here watch her shows?
If so, are they interesting?
Why the hell does the Western Bulldogs need her for a member? I seriously think they weren't that desperate. Oh well.

Discuss.

Re: Oprah Winfrey

As much as I can't stand her and the sad sops that watch her show, this was a stroke of genius by the Australian tourism people. The publicity Australia are getting from this stint is uncountable in how much it is actually worth for the tourism of Australia.

Re: Oprah Winfrey

Tourism Australia have got this exercise horribly wrong, haven't seen everything she's done but the best idea would be to show her as much of the country as they possibly could, instead she has been to Uluru, big deal, Whitehaven beach, and had a chef prepare a sumptuos meal which was way over the top and absolutely nothing like any other tourist will experience, Bridgeclimb, big deal, and fed square, yawn, followed by the Opera house, yawn again, plus she's had the obligatory Koala cuddle, plus she's met Joolia, maybe they swapped ideas on how to stay in the closet.
Has anyone noticed a jump in tourism numbers from America yet, have Qantas put on extra planes?, shouldn't this start to have an effect straight away, how long will it take to see a climb in tourist numbers?
How long before we realise we've all been conned?

All the examples you gave as being boring are boring for us because we have been around them our whole life. For people outside of Australia, they are new, interesting and something they would want to check out. I find it hard to see how Tourism Australia won't win from Oprah coming to Australia as millions of people around the world see our great country and will therefore too want to experience it.

So people are going to jump on a plane a day after watching? What part of Australia would you propose they show?

There will now be 4 shows as a result of this. lets see 1.5 mil from fed govt 1 mil from nsw govt and half a mill from qld govt and vic govt. 4 mil for 4 shows 4 hours of prime time us coverage for 1 mil a show - lets not even count the air time outside of usa - lets ignore canada, uk and all of europr.

Tourism Australia have got it wrong ?????????? hmm not sure about that.

Her audience was handpicked for this australian tour. They picked the most interesting people they could find, so probably not the usual hysterical Oprah crowd.
