I was pleased to read that Melbourne is pressing for the match against Adelaide set for Optus Oval to be moved to the MCG. Adelaide are also keen for it to happen and the AFL have given it the go ahead as long as bloody Carlton is compensated.

im not really to fussed about if we move or not, because there is a bus to the match when its at optus that leaves not far from where i live.

yeah there is a bus round here, not that it matters coz its always full, its also not hard to get to optus really. but i'd rather have the game at the g, its our home
For the Dees at least, it's the passion of playing at home! The MCG is our home ground. Optus Oval isn't. I hope the AFL can talk that idiot Elliott into it. Another 9000 supporter crowd will be a complete embarrassment!
Depends how much it costs to compensate Carlton for moving the game. If it doesn't cost the club too much I think they should move it.

I wait with great interest to see how our games at Optus Oval go and whether or not we have similar problems to Melbourne.

One can only hope we don't have the negative backlash that your supporters showed on your move to Optus, as like you guys, we don't really need yet another game day loss.

Yes a profit can be made at the MCG for games involving interstate clubs, but very very small. And if it's a Sunday game where operating costs are higher (MCG staff wages) it is less likely.
An interstate club vs Melbourne match at the MCG would attract somewhere around 18,000 - 20,000. I must say that there is no atmosphere at all when there is such a small crowd. At least Optus had some sort of atmosphere and there were only 9,000 people there.

It almost seems that the Dogs President is happy to play at Optus. I guess he would have a point because it is almost impossible to make a profit against interstate teams at Colonial. Didn't the Dogs lose about $50,000 against the Crows in Round 1. At the MCG you would virtually break even. Also Bulldog supporters are a bit more used to Optus. I know a Dogs supporter who does not mind becuase they played better at Optus than they do at Colonial! However I still think it is wrong that other teams have to play home matches at Optus.
David Smorgon is very happy with the lower attendance games being moved back to Optus Oval.
I for one, do not have a great love affair with Optus Oval, but it was our choice to move the games, it wasn't a "Carlton don't want to play there, we'll pick up the slack" it was definatly our choice, because we couldn't soak up yet another financial loss with a crowd of only 10,000 at Colonial.
Had posted on the Bulldog board, the requirements to break even and the levels finanicaly we had achieved. It went something along the lines of:
16,000 = Loss $19,000
23,000 = Loss $8,000
28,000 = Break Even
31,000 = $10,000
Like i said, can't remember exactly, but we i think we've lost something like $45,000 so far this year playing at Colonial.
The problem steem's from being told that originally, 15,000 was going to be break even, but like everything at that ground, have they gotten anything right?

i never realised how sh*tty Optus was until i went with you guys.. i mean, with my seats it's GREAT besides the fact atht it takes a bloody hour to get there! but omg.. if i were you i would MUCH rather go to the 'G.. what ami talking about? i'd rather go to the 'G anwyay!!!
but yeah, it'd be good if u can move that game.. considering i'm going!
