My plan is great at the moment (I'm still using the old MySprint one). The uploads towards downloads thing really sucks arse:

Both the Fusion and MyHome plans count uploads and eliminate the off-peak extra data allowance.

So if I change to one of those plans, I will receive no more off-peak benefits. Screw that.

My contract expires in Feb, I might look around for a new ISP. Thinking of switching to ADSL2+, but there's an element of risk. I don't want to change ISP only to end up having 5.5 - 5.9 Mbps speeds, or worse... as I live around 3km from my exchange.

If you can get it in your area, Westnet is the way.

No upload metering, cheap plans, good quotas with off peak bonus's, very reliable and good customer service.

I'd recommend them to anyone.:thumbsu:

**** you Optus. Im on the 2 Gig Peak, 4 Gig off peak.
Ahahahahahaha. This guy is a loser...:thumbsd:

Lol, Nah Jordan. It's only for people who haven't signed up for a new plan yet. If you're with your old plan, then you don't get charged. ;)

I think that's how it goes anyways.

Thankfully Optus assures me that the excess data charges only apply to new Fusion customers who signed up after December 3.

I wish people would include important information instead of just saying how bad something is.... Optus users need not take note of this as it doesn't apply to them.

People thinking of joining optus need to take note.

Btw I changed to the fusion plan not long ago as my phone bill was around $70/month.

For an extra $30 I got 20 Gb /m cable internet. I don't need the off-peak / peak b.s It's all counted equally so thats fine with me.

The plans are a disgrace, worse than BigPond.

Half the downloads (who the hell has the highest plan at only 30GB?? TPG have 150GB for $70 !), more expensive, they count uploads (close to the worst part) and have excess fees.

For 10 bucks a month less, you could have bundled adsl2 with westnet and got 20GBpeak 40GBoff peak = 60GB, and no metered uploads.

For the same as that optus bundle you could have bundled with iinet and got 40GBpeak 40GBoff peak = 80GB, and no metered uploads.

Metered uploads, like optus and bigpond really cut into your quota if you game or use peer to peer programs.

The comparison guide on whirlpool is a great tool for getting yourself the best broadband deal, those optus deals are a major rip.

I can't though because of my contract. In March or April I will more than happily change but for the moment it is fine for my family.

I never use close to the 20Gb that I am allocated and find off peak to be the biggest load of shit there is. I have no desire to leave my PC on overnight for no reason.

Also no ADSL2 in my area at the moment.

Your call i guess. I tend to schedule my torrent client to only download in my off peak period, that way i always have heaps of peak quota left for other things and utorrent doesn't steal my bandwidth when i'm browsing/gaming.

I find it invaluable, but i understand that if you didn't download much and never used all your quota it wouldn't seem that important.

yeah different things for different people. I don't do any gaming on there and probably never will unless things miraculously change and I can afford an Xbox 360. If I did it would be an entirely different situation.

BTW when you bundle ADSL2 with Westnet, what is the actual bundle.

The Bundle is just called Option 5 on their website.

Its Up to 24576 / 820 kbps and costs 89.95 a month with 20G peak 40G off peak. Its shaped after quota is reached to 64/64kbs, with no metered uploads.

If you don't have adsl2, you can get the exactly same quotas at 1500 / 256 kbps for 69.95 bundled.

This news is no surpise.

I jumped from Optus about six months ago and it took me three months to stop them from billing me and another month to get them to refund the money they incorrectly took from my account. They will try anything to screw a dollar out of a customer."

One of the comments on that webpage. Had to laugh, but i'm in no doubt that it's obviously another trick they use in the hope people forget about it whilst getting another 3 months worth of bills for nothing. I had a simular problem with Optus but that's dragging it off-topic.

I'm not in the know with all these internet plans, but i'm with iprimus and they seem to be alright. $70 for 1500/256 for 12gb of downloads (not bundled). Haven't really changed because the customer service is brilliant and i've never had a problem.

Is that 12gb on peak?

With optus I get 1500/256 60gb (20gb on peak/ 40gb off peak) for the same price.
