How many more flags dogs could have won without Beverage? The most wasted list over the last decade I’ve seen in my life. Only the saints lists in the 80’s 90’s comes close.
Melbourne, at the very least coughed up one if not two. Ess of ‘99, ‘00, ‘01 worth a shout.

Don't think that 99 - 01 window is a fail though. 99 was undoubtedly a lost chance given we'd played both North and Carlton in the H&A season twice, and beaten them both twice, but we did make the PF. 00 obviously a success. Then 01 we ran up against a Brisbane side that was simply better than ours, but did make the GF.

I think Melbourne and the Dogs will look back and think they didn't get out of it what they should have.

Win or lose our ladder position doesn't change, so our draft hand remains as-is.
We win? Hardwick misses finals in the funniest way. You just know he'll be infuriated.
Win - Unwin gets his first win and the young kids get reward for their consistent effort over the back half of the season.
win - Lual played in 11 lost 11, Blakiston 10 losses, Zach Johnson 9 losses, McMahon 6 losses, Nguyen 4 losses,
Win - Supporters can cheer and hope for a win as draft picks don't change
Win - suns miss finals - spuds comment comes home to roost.
Win - start our winning culture for next year
Win - with a young group possibly helps trade discussions with opposition players in trade period.
win - start to gain some respect in the competition
win - would be a backs against the wall kind of win - we pushed saints.
Lose - there will be a number of days since Essendon have won a game comment at the start of the season adding more pressure on us. will be like 12 losses in a row.

Injuries - Suns have lost Rioli. Pressure on coach and players.

there are many benefits of winning, and only negatives for losing this week.

Probably the most I've wanted to win in months.

Would be one hell of an accomplishment. One last chance to watch the team for the year, looking forward to it.

We looked ahead to the Dreamtime game (this year) with Essendon with confidence – it was always one of the best weeks of the year, listening to the stories of our brothers. But while the lead-in to the game was good, the outcome was more of a nightmare than anything else.

When Dusty (Martin) kicked the first goal of the last quarter, we led by 18 points, and that should have been the end of it. But we allowed Essendon to control the ball through uncontested marks and we didn’t defend well. Sam Durham kicked the match-winning goal at the 28-minute mark, putting them one point ahead.

We had blown it.

That led to one of the most unusual post-matches we had ever seen from Dimma. His response was different to any other game I played in.

He was filthy and cutting with his comments to the group and about the opposition. In an angry meeting in the rooms after the game, he referred to us as “putrid” and said the way some of us had played meant he would just get “another c--- to replace us”.

He pointed to the Essendon team that was displayed on the white board and said, “To be honest with you, I reckon this team is a bunch of spuds, and you aren’t even as good as they are.”

Not many left from that Day, Sam Durham must play though if he's close.
Imagine him kicking the sealer again.

Only McGrath, Langford, Redman, Durham, Merrett,Menzie, Perkins left from 2 years ago.
possibly Hobbs, Ridley, Caldwell, Davey Jnr if fit and selected.

We dominated 3 years of the comp for 1 flag - we left one on the table there...

We dominated in 2000. Finishing 5 wins and 25%ish ahead of the #2 on the ladder.

1999 we finished 1 win ahead of the Kangaroos, and had the second best percentage behind Brisbane.
2001 we finished equal on wins ahead of Brisbane by percentage but come the GF injuries had caught up.

We definitely didn't 'dominate' the comp for 3 years. 1999 we 'should' have won based on H&A form, but 2001 we'd lost to Brisbane in the H&A season.

Yeah I’m invested in this game too…I’m hoping the boys are fired up just to kick the GC out…either we win or lose by 100 playing kamikaze football…no point ‘saving’ anything

Yeah - 1999 was the one.
I reckon we didn't hit our straps until a Friday night game during the year vs the Bulldogs (Lloyd injured early) which we won in a real fight & then we were pretty solid after that.
Early in that 99 season we nearly went goal-less vs WCE over there on a Sunday. So we definitely didn't start the season like we finished it. We were flying toward the end of 99.

I remember that WA game well. We had just come off the back of Lloyd’s thirteen goals and an eighty point thumping of Sydney. Memories!

I hate the dogs a lot, but I love the dons more than I hate the dogs. Let’s have a crack and have a win. I know the umps will be against us but I think a win would propel us into the preseason and start to give these kids confidence

I’m still filthy about all those head dropping free kicks weightman got against us a few years ago (final). Was disgusting
Very rarely bag umps, it gets boring quick, but that day , weightman seemed to have those umps in a trance.

I know I'm meant to respect him for his achievements but even tho he’s an ex bomber I just dislike Hardwick so much

And there were his comments about Essendon a while back when we were Richmond's bunny.

Dogs I don't mind apart from the diving flog element.

We should get absolutely pumped but if we somehow start well there will be some extremely nervous and rattled GCS players. I just can't write us off in this one.

Loved him as an Essendon player. He was tough as nails and had the game to back up the toughness too.

Doesn’t mean he’s not a completely insufferable, small little pissant who can’t take responsibility or lose gracefully now though.
