Was teaching yesterday but tuned in briefly - turned off during Brody's speech cos he was rambling and I didn't have time haha.

He's made himself seem pretty unlikable during his two Oscar speeches (unconsented long kiss on the lips to the presenter Halle Berry when he got his first).

Completely forgot about that

Pretty good ceremony, really. The James Bond tribute was dumb. I love him and all but I’m not sure why Quincy Jones got such a special tribute, and it seems a lot of this was in lieu of not having the Best Song nominations perform, which I think is a mistake.

Conan was the best host they’ve had in a while and makes you wonder why they took so long to get him. He actually seems to love movies, which is nice!

The speeches were mostly fine. Big fan of the Short Film man and woman co-winners who were giving a speech about empowering women only for him to say halfway through “you’re doing it wrong”, take over and then say exactly what she’d said.

Brody’s was a shocker. He broke the 82 year old record for longest speech which is what brought in the whole concept of people being played off.

I think Anora was the best of all possible winners so a good outcome all around.
They should have ditched the James Bond tribute and done one to David Lynch instead

I'm a little sad about Demi. "Brave" and "vulnerable" are trite terms these days but her performance really was those things. Shows to me that the Oscars still don't want to give a horror movie a major award.

I enjoyed Anora and am happy for Baker. Thought Mikey Madison was good but a little one note given the hype.
The point made by Big Picture podcast made sense, the Academy never embrace the "mainstream actor in comeback" story like we expect them to.
Everyone thought Eddie Murphy for Dreamgirls, Mickey Rourke for Wrestler and Sly Stallone for Creed were the favourites (and they won a lot of lead up awards) but they all came up empty handed on Oscar night. Moore is a similar sort of story to them.

But everything you said re her performance was spot on. I liked Madison's performance too though but still wish Demi had won.
