So the sheep have re-elected a lying, duplicitous, brown-nosing piece of scum to our leadership.

I wonder, do we have a voting majority that actually enjoys being lied to or something? Howard has got increasingly more arrogant with every term, and now we will pay for it. Lies spill from his mouth like water from a full-on tap. He thinks he knows more than our best military and intelligence personnel. Bush says jump, Johnny says 'how high'. His economic management is far overrated, and he has benefited from a lot of Keating's reforms.

I am not embarrassed to say I preferenced Liberals ahead of Labor at the last election, because Beazley was a spineless weed with no policies and no direction, but I think it is fair to say now that I was wrong and Howard's third term was a black time for our nation. A time when we locked up innocent women and children in concentration camps. When we brutally invaded a sovereign country for purely political purposes and still tried to lie about our motives even when they were exposed as fallacy. A time when we failed to stand up against the true international criminals like the government of Israel and pathetically followed Bush's conga line like a little dog on a leash. A time when we contributed to the collapse of the United Nations as an international forum for political equality. A time when we thumbed our noise at the environment and chose the pollutions of our industry over the pressing reforms of the Kyoto Treaty. A time when we brutally bent our students over in order to further commercialise our universities and restrict access to the privileged who can afford such a heavy debt burden. A time when the rights of homosexuals were further undermined by a Prime Minister who can't seem to get into his head the separation of church and state that underpins our society. A time when we further alienated ourselves from our closest neighbours and most important regional partners with our childish and narrow-minded actions.

Howard achieved that in only 3 years...what for the next 3 years? Maybe World War III? The Apocalypse.

To those who voted for Howard: shame on you.

Must be hard for you not only living in a city that has to put up with the Power, but a nation that has a great man leading our country.

Enjoy the next 3 years!!!

BTW, why are liberal voters sheep? I'd say we are smart!

Good comments. Well, another three years with a stuffed higher education system, an inequitable industrial system, an inadequate health care system....but our interest rates will be low

So many sheep

Apparently soindoctor doesn't like the democratic processes in this country.

I am not a conservative supporter but i unhesitatingly accept the countrys decision because i believe in our process and our democracy.

If you think people who voted differently to you are sheep, you are a sad individual.
Long live demcracy, and my right to vote. And may our constitution protect this right.
I believe in democracy and the people have spoken. Get over it.

And you are as sad as spindoctor.

It isn't a footy match, it is the direction of our country with the population wieghing up who is best equiped to run it. In this instance the country has chosen the Coalition to do so until the next election. Next time it may well be different.
If enough people dont like what the govt is doing, they will get kicked out. Simple as that.

So what do you call it then? A victory? A flogging? I reckon a 'win' is a pretty reserved word for it!

As for the Democrats giving the Lib's their vote... Dont think they like us too much lately! Auntie Meg isnt there anymore! :D

I really couldn't care about the countries controversial issues, nor do i mind John Howards lies.

Fact is, we're quickly becoming the next superpower of the world.

Sadly our democracy is not as great as everyone thinks. Our democracy is supposed to be representative - representative of the wishes of the population. It was quite abundantly clear the majority of the population did not want a bar of the war against Iraq. For Howard to go and do it because he thought it was 'right'(read: Bush told him to) was a complete kick in the face of democracy. He was representing what he wanted, not what his constituents wanted.

The sad fact is, a large proportion of voting Australians vote Labor or Liberal without a thought - lifetime voters. That is voter apathy and bad for our electoral system. Even worse, this is often drilled into their offspring, and they become lifetime voters without a thought as well. To actually listen to a party's policies, consider their ethics, plans and performance in the previous term of office/opposition takes time and effort and sadly most Australian voters won't give a flying f**k.

Fact is, we have a highly conservative, heavily aging population, and I could see Howard pandering to that constituency from a mile off and winning. Latham has too much youth, passion and left-of-centre ideas to appeal to middle Australia. Middle Australia is afraid of taking risks, and Latham represented one.

More people should read www.johnhowardlies.com . Politicians lie, but this compendium is scary.

QUOTE]

Sadly this is too true.

Even those (many) who have supported Labor in the past & have decided to vote Greens this time as some new trendy thing to to do................have really cost Labor in the House of Reps big time. The preference deal between the two really is a double edged sword. It would seem to me that it would make much more sense for anyone of a 'green' persuasion to stick with Labor in the House of Reps but do their bit for the environment by voting Greens in the Senate where that party can play an effective role in potentially holding the balance of power.

This has been the downfall (sadly) for Labor at this election.

Nevermind......................next time True Believers!
