Errr.. are you actually aware of what the name Romario means in the world game? He is one of the all time greats and still going strong. A little dymano with exceptional knack for scoring goals when you wouldn't give anyone esle any chance.
Awesome, all of a sudden I have an urge to see this Romario guy in action!

25K is sweet ******** all in the greater aspect of the world game. Some of the players wouldn't get out of bed for that much. I very much doubt Romario is coming for the money. God knows he would have pocketed millions of dollars over the year from his salary, sponsorship deals etc... 25K is a pocket change for him kid.
When I mentioned the money I was meaning what a disgrace it is that he is getting paid more than every single SANFL player, and yet he is playing a mere 5 games. Disgusting.

I think they will be hanging from the rafters. Only ignorant lost souls like you would see this as a non event. Anyone with half an interest in soccer would be there with bells on. I know I would be :thumbsu:
Hanging from the rafters of a stadium that holds all of what, 15k? Gold.

Romario is an out and our gun. This is coming from someone who was getting up at odd hours of the morning to watch this wizard weave his magic in the 1994 World Cup. He is a dynamite that would still make a lot of national teams even at the age of 40.
You wake up at odd hours of the morning to see him “weave his magic” Good for you young Stiffmiester. :thumbsu:

I will most definitely watch the game on Fox but highly doubt I would go to a game.

The standard of soccer (football) in Australia is increasing all that time and basically made the old NSL look like a small country league, by attracting a huge football name like Romero givers the code in this country credibility.

Football in this country is not going away and the AFL have to make sure all the strategic plans are in place to keep the kids playing and watching the sport.

Romario is here for the goals, plain and simple. He needs 14 to reach 1000 and I think he thinks the A-league would be an easy place to kick some goals.
And he's right. Now I'm not saying the standard is poor. But I've watched my share of the A-League and my share of the Euro leagues and the difference to me is pretty obvious.
I mean Romario is coming over from playing for Miami. He's good enough to play anywhere but he's just played in America and now he's coming over to play in Australia. He wants to kick goals and thats it.
Hell, I hope like hell he gets to 1000 here. 14 goals in 5 matches means Adelaide wins.

The fact that you compared Romario to a SANFL player speaks volumes of your knowledge on the matter. That comparios is on par with saying that Vietnamese prostitute from South Park is much sexier and better looking that Jeniffer Hawkins.

Way to go Drummond :thumbsu:

He will not score 14 goals in 5 matches.

He would be lucky to score 2 a game I would be more inclined to put some money on him getting less than 4 (less than 1 a game)

14 goals in 5 matches is a huge ask even for the great man. Now if he somehow stayed on for another 4 or 5 matches it would be in the bag IMHO.

I would love to see him kick a 1000. That would be unbelievable achievement. 1000 goals in a career in AFL football is one hell of an achievement but in soccer, well thats just a freak.

Sorry I should've been clearer, I don't think for one second he will even get close to getting 14 goals here. That's why I said 'hope like hell', if one player were to kick that many goals in that many games then that team is not losing, and I want W's for United.

Should be an interesting game. You guys are the only ones to really bother us this season and you had to strangle our poor and innocent captain to put him off his game. :p

There is a clause in his contract that states if he gets to 999 goals he won't play further games for Adelaide as he wants to get his 1000th goal with his club side in Brazil.

I guess if he does get to 999 he won't be taking any spot kicks then. ;)

I'll be there.

It also occurred to me that Adelaide United attract far larger crowds than Norwood. Not sure why I had that thought really. :D

Is he counting junior soccer goals, like Pele does in his 1000?
I can never believe these sorta things. Let's say he's been playing at a professional level since he was 16. He's now 40. That's still over 41 goals a season for 24 years.
He's definately including trial matches, friendlies and youth games in his goal tally, just like Pele did.
Kinda takes the shine off of it.
Romario is a legend and a brilliant striker, but even at his age he's probably only scored about 500 official goals.

It promises to be an exciting month of soccer? No one will care about soccer this month (and beyond that) because everyone will be tuning into the cricket.

Tennis > Soccer.

Oh and roostersgal4evaandeva please don’t bother. We’ve argued before and it didn’t end pretty for you. :o

Ignorance is strength Drummond.

I bought tickets weeks ago for this one, should be a ripper of a game regardless of the fact Romario is playing which will obviously add to the whole occassion.

Muscat v Kosmina Round 2 would be great.

Few beers at the Governor Hindmarsh beforehand, should be great

At least you can get tickets for this match unlike the cricket, where long time supporters and players of the game were completetly shafted. The FFA kicks Cricket Australias arse now when it comes to organisation.

You’re just listing countries that have witnessed the abysmal standard of our league.

The standard is pretty good I would have thought.

How we go in the Asian champs league will be a big indicator

You should get the chip of your shoulder as you are making yourself look silly.

a great Friday! - Adelaide Oval during the day and then with a few drinks under the belt off to Hindmarsh - should see a lot of supporters in full voice there

Muscat might take care of Romario and show him the Aussie style :D but i hope he scores plenty of goals, however, i have some niggling doubts as to whether the structure of the side may be affected adversely - but i hope i'm wrong
