1. Mathew Hayden
2. Justin Langer
3. Ricky Pointing
4. Michael Clarke
5. Mike Hussy
6. Adam Gilchrist
7. Shane Watson
8. Brett Lee
9. Shane Warne
10. Shaun Tait
11. Glenn McGrath
12. Andrew Symonds

I cannot stand Damian Martyn and his time as a international cricketer has come to an end so he is not be in my side, Michael Clarke is the future of Australian cricket so he has to get the nod and play in the middle order. I guess it’s my SA bias coming through but I would select Shaun Tait over bracken or Johnson because that raw pace of Shaun Tait and the experience of Brett Lee could make a few of the old country ********ting themself.

Finally someone spells Jaques correctly.

Top marks Roosterlad :thumbsu:
I was waiting for that.

Anyway, I really can't wait for this series. This is right up there with the most I've ever anticipated a sporting event. Hope we smash em. ;)

My team for the first test.

Trescothick
Strauss
Cook
Bell
Pietersen
Flintoff
Reid
Mahmood
Hoggard
Harmison
Panesar

This test will be your best chance for the Aussies to have a win over the Poms in the current ashes series.

Lose this one & it's goodnight nurse & thank you very much for the chocolates & we'll see you all next time around.. :D

Jimmy Anderson should get the new ball with Harmison as Freddy Flintoff will not be anywhere near as effect as he was in the last Ashes series, his ankle has not fully recovered from surgery and this will not allow to be successful in test match conditions.

Jimmy Anderson should play to give England that extra fast bowler and I would consider dropping Mahmood or Monty Panesar.

I like that side Noddy, would look a lot better with Vaughn batting at 3 , Peterson at 4, Flintoff at 5 and cook at 6. I would drop Ian Bell if Vaughn was playing but he is safe for a few test as he isn’t.

My tips

Gabba – Australia in 3 days (England shell shocked again)
Wacca – Draw
Adelaide – England on 5th day
Melbourne boxing day – Draw rained out
Sydney New Years – Australia with Warne taking 13 wicket (35 plus for the series)

Australia to win 2 – 1

my predictions:

Brisbane: Australia
Adelaide: Draw
Perth: Australia
Melbourne: Australia
Sydney: England (series would be over so aus relaxes)

result: Australia 3 - England 1

IMO there's 2 teams. The one the selectors will pick and the one that I would (my changes in brackets)

Langer (Jacques)
Hayden
Ponting
Martyn
Hussey
Gilchrist
Watson (Clarke)
Warne
Lee
Johnson
McGrath
I agree that I think that will be the team they will select.

I would pick:
Jacques (need to start bringing in young blood)
Hayden
Ponting
Martyn
Hussey
Watson
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Tait (more deserving IMO than Johnson on 4-day form)
McGrath
12th Man: Clark

Would you like to borrow one of our openers noddy? We've got plenty to choose from :)

P.S. Best of luck to Marcus in dealing with his illness :thumbsu:

Must admit i'm really gutted both vaughan and tres won't be playing. What was looming as a sensational series now seems abit hollow.

Not being able to field your best team through illness or injury sounds like how our Ashes were stolen in the first place.

I'm certainly not shedding any tears......they rejoiced at not having to face McGrath and an in form Dizzy last time - didn't see that dampening any of their ticker tape parades, knighthoods, bus tours, or drunken loutishness.

Show no mercy......;)

Yeah I'm not all that confident in him being able to produce the goods in test match cricket, especially in the Ashes.

I say ******** the all rounder spot. We don't have a gun allrounder who is capable of dominating tests. Go with 6 batsmem, Gilly as keeper, then 4 bowlers. We dont need an allrounder to win these ashes back.

Well the batting lineup is set, Tait/Johnson/Watson/Clark all fighting for remaining bowling berths. I get the feeling Watson may get the nod because he is an allrounder and its a home test match for him.

Agree re Watson as he is capable with the bat. When did Roy become out of favour with the selectors?

Not sure about Roy falling out favour, he never looked like a decent test player though. His bowling was average at best and his batting isn't suited to the longer form of the game. He only really had one special day in the Boxing Day Test. Apart from that he was pretty useless which is unfortunate because i'm a huge fan of his.

He's brilliant in the field.
