OT - Ashes

We have been beaten by a far better side whose only purpose was to annihilate who ever they faced.

I agree completely with your assessment although (at the risk of sounding like a whining pom) Strauss was given some dubious decisions by the umpires.

As for Bell he has shown what he can bat like when in a positive frame of mind & just has to learn not to be intimidated by the likes of Warne ( hard i know)

We were outplayed before the series began & life for the English cricket followers there after was all down hill, but of course we would never admit it.

At least the Barmy Army gave as good as they got it.:thumbsu: :)

They remind me of the captain of the Titanic saluting as it goes down.

Good on ya Nod...:thumbsu: ....it's tough to hold the head high when the side you support gets pantsed .........but it looks like there might be light at the end of the tunnel with Warney and OOOO---AHHHH....set to retire

The English were smug and complacent. They didn't prepare, the selections were wrong, and they thought they had everything in hand.

the build up was incredible, and it was pretty obvious they weren't used to being on top of the hill. Which in itself is amazing, only 20 years ago we were the ones looking to climb out of a hole - and now they don't even know what it means to win, how to behave or prepare to defend something you've won.

the MBE stuff was just a good example of the change in attitude of a new generation in English sport.

My only disappointment is that Geoffrey Boycott isn't here to enjoy our success.

Who cares who is retiring in 6-12 months time, i'm enjoying every minute of what could become a 5-0 embarrassment.

Once again it's proven - No Tufnell, No England.

I'm just really cheesed off that Kerry O'Keeffes dulcit tones are off the radio 2 days earlier. He made my 60km a day round trip to/from work far more enjoyable.

You know it's sad when the Test finishes before the first Sydney to Hobart yacht crosses the line. :)

I'm suprised with how good the ABC commentary is. Not only are they very informative they're pretty blo*dy funny too. Beats the crap out of listening to Ian Chappell rabit on about how good a captain he was.

It's a pity we can't chip in to fly Boycott out here for the last test.

Ian Chappell is an absolute pain in the arse.

He talks on TV and radio as if he is still captaining a side, even to the point where he makes comments like 'when I'm asking my bowlers to do this and that etc etc" in the present tense, rather than in the past. It always reverts to being about him.

I worked with Ian at one stage in his life, and he was a foul mouthed opiniated so and so - nothing's changed.

As you say Springy, the ABC boys are unbeatable. Apart from the locals of Jim Maxwell, Kerry O'Keeffe etc, the visiting commentators of Peter Roebuck and Jonathon Agnew are pure quality.

Aggers is outstanding IMO - the Dennis Commetti of cricket.

A sample of his wit when someone was looking for a small ruler:

"“Bill needs a small ruler…how about the Sultan of Brunei? I hear he is only 4ft 10!” :thumbsu:

1. Chappelli thinks he was gods gift to cricket captaincy
2. he's right
3. being annoyed at point 1. doesn't change that no.2 is correct also

I just wanted to add that the new 12th man ‘Boned’ CD by Billy Birmingham is his best effort yet. Billy has made absolutely fantastic stuff this time and rips the urine out of Richie and the boys; this is most definitely worth a listen.

**** (4 stars out of 5) :thumbsu:

Side note: if you are not a fan of profanity, you will hate this CD.

crows98 i got it for xmas but havent yet got around to listening to it, i love his other work, its absolutely brilliant, but on the cricket board it has been bagged and most have said its his worst effort yet??

have you heard most of his other work? are those clowns over there talking ********? im sure i will get a laugh out of it regardless

I am not a cricket fan but love the 12th man (maybe because he takes the urine out of the game) but have always loved listening to the 12th man ever since his first record came out in the early 1980’s.

In patches it was some of the funniest stuff I have heard from him as the 12th man (absolutely ********s on “Bill Lawrie this is your life”) so I would have to say that they are just talking crappolla. Some stages are crap but other stages are well worth it and certainly make up for the cringe worthy moments.

Shane Warne and his infamous text messaging get a gig as well as the larger louts from the barmy army.

Derek Pringle wrote a 2 page article in one of the English news papers this would have to be the quote of the year

Take Ponting and Shane Warne out of the picture, and on pure player power you would not worry about playing against any of the others in county cricket.

What a amazing statement not only would the other 9 fit right in the english side BUT so would johnson and Tait and tait is not fit but would still be better than Steve Harmfull

Alan Border is the best Australian captain of the past 30 years.
in all honesty from what ive heard and seen doesnt compare to chapelli... i wasnt around to see enough of either... but from what i have heard chapelli was just the ultimate captain...

He was a great captain, up there with the best. Unfortunately the same qualities that made him a good captain, the biggest ego in the cricket world, have made him a whinging whining commentator who thinks it's all still about him.
