My high school (Golden Grove HS) is relatively new, I think it opened in 1990 or some time around then. It's still there.

Did they still have that ramp going down from the main assembly area to the main oval area when you were there Stiffy??

When I was there one of the students unfortunately sat on the wall protecting people from the drop on the north western side - which was a no-no - and unfortunately fell, killing himself.

Anyone else have the misfortunate to wear the maroon, grey and gold of Enfield High? Being an Aussie, and in the minority, things got abit hairy at times. Thank god for the KDF. Great school, alot of laughs.

Nah the ramp is gone. I think it got replaced with a new drama theater.

The school has changed so much since I left though. A couple of months ago I had to go into AHS for some work related stuff and the place looks SO much different to what it was 8-9 years ago.

My old match teacher Mr Black (huge crows fan) recognised me and with a smirk on his face he yelled out "Where is your school uniform young man?!"

I went to Brighton. I got into the school via the volleyball program, despite being one of the shortest guys at the school. I ran a beep test of 11.5 in year 7 and did well on the agility test, but they should have just measured me and realised I didn't have any future in the sport.

McDermott was meant to attend the school for an old scholars function, his face was on the posters everywhere and he cancelled a week beforehand.

The most famous guy who went there whilst I was there was Chris Rae, the weightlifter. He got gold at the Melbourne Commonwelath Games and bronze in Manchester.

He missed out on the Athens Olympics cos of this:

Now the most famous will be Gibbs I guess.

I used to go to the SASI gym and Chris Rae was there. Good bloke always enjoyed a chat. We always tried to get him to play for our Gridiron team.

Go to Marion Sports and Community Club, Rae holds the record for the fastest time to eat a 1kg steak.

Yeah he was 3-4 years above me, so I never spoke to him. He had a reputation of being the nicest guy that could punch your lights.

Hahaha I knew a guy in the KDF...he took great exception when I asked if it stood for Kilburn Dumb F...ers

Will be going to the school reunion on the 8/12/2006 (not sure why on earth you would have it at 1-4pm on a Friday but gives me chance to take time off work). Which years were you there, PerthCrow. I was there from 1974-1978. 1974 was the first year it went from a Technical High School (boys and girls were separated) to a High School. Some memorable times and now its disappointing to see it close given my primary school, Croydon Primary, also closed a few years ago.

I was there 77-80

I saw your link as well for the year 12s

I knew some guys there in the late 70's. There was a few of them in the North cheer squad back then. Also a couple of players like The Gehling brothers.
On the original question I went to "Hackney High" ;) so I don't think my old school will close anytime soon.

Neddy - when were you at the SASI gym? I know that gym very well.

I think I am well and truely in the minority here, hated my time at high school and have tried to block most memories, but I did go to Unley so that may explain it :D

Kung Fu - what years were you at Brighton as you may know my dad?

Both my old High Schools are still around - Whyalla High, which produced some of the biggest names in South Australian football (and Gary Argus in my era :D), and Blackwood High (a year behind Peter Motley).

The Cockatoo-Collins boys went through Croydon when my dad taught there.

My experience with most of the HS mentioned was through sport - and they weren't all good !!

I never rated Adelaide High School - did two years of Croatian classes there through the school of international language.

my two highschools are still about (1 in country 1 in the city), but I don't keep in touch with anyone from school really

Both my high school's are still around.. Went to Woodville High - left there at the end of year 10 .. then went and did year 11 & 12 at Le Fevre High..

Was never really fond of the idea of going to Croydon High, and am still very glad I decided against going.

All down hill after the entrance exam was dropped and it was just another zoned school

That makes sense of course, because when they had the entrance exam it assured that they only took the cream of the students.

When I went there all prospective students had to sit the entrance exam, and as a result the school dominated the state results.

It was more of a semi-college really with pretty high standards not only in education but also in behaviour.

I loved the school, even if I did get the cuts a few times (deservedly). :D

5 of the best years of my life. :thumbsu:

Salesian College anybody??? Nah didn't think so.... :D
