Hope you guys can help me out here...

Is there a place in Melbourne, perhaps like a sports-themed bar, that would have the American ESPN sports cable network?

I'm looking for a place to watch the Alamo Bowl on 31 December. It's quite important, as my beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers will be taking the gridiron against Northwestern University.

Any leads would be appreciated.

I reckon your best bet would be the All Star Cafe at Crown. It has a truckload of sports coverage (and definetely has ESPN)

Give them a buzz to see what's on

Best of luck!

Thanks Gonzo!

I'll keep an eye out.

If anyone's in Crown on New Year's Eve afternoon and some loudmouth Yank in a gridiron jersey is whoopin it up, you'll all know who to blame

I get ESPN on Austar but I'm not sure if its available on Foxtel. If you can get Austar it's worth because you get C7 as well which has got a very good footy and cricket coverage.

By the way Stealth, I used to go out with a girl from Nebraska and she got me onto the 'huskers' as well. Looking forward to the game.

Loud-mouthed, me? Nahhhhh...I'm quiet as a mouse

Except when football is on.

Sprogs: Oh no, that must have been a terribly masochistic experience

Stealth,

Any house in Melbourne with Optus Vision or in country Victoria with Austar will have ESPN.

But definitely the All Star Cafe at Crown.

You could always watch it on the big screens at Crown, but you will have to make sure you sit on the top level next to the speakers if you want any sound.

I remember watching the Round 22 saints match against the lions in 1998 there. We were 1 point down and there was a ball up in the goal square. We grabbed the ball, kicked a goal, and the saints fans were jumping up and down until we had found out that the siren had gone.

I'm a bit off the track now. Sorry Stealth

Stealth,

Actually she was extremely er..umm..friendly and to be quite honest if she's an example of your typicle American female then what the hell are you doing coming over here?

Before I met her I thought that beachroot, I mean beetroot, was something you put on your sandwiches.

What happened this year, Stealthy. What no national championship game for Nebraska?

On a serious note didn't they finish in 8th place in the BCS rankings.

Defense stunk this year, hit hard by graduation losses as well as a new defensive coordinator. Some very bad teams moved the ball at will.

Also some very questionable coaching all year; continuing to leave clueless people on the field because of seniority with talented underclassment sitting on the bench. Plus all the tough games were on the road.

And yeah, 8th in the BCS. Anything in the top 10 is respectable though. They really should have been 3rd or 4th; they lost a game by one point to a team they had no business losing to.
