WELL DONE LIVERPOOL FC. FA CUP CHAMPIONS 2001!!

Owen...you are an absolute star!! Shove that up ur Arse, dumb cockney bastards!!!

****en brilliant! That's it...i'm getting pissed!!!!

:D :D :D

Great result. But I'd have to say the Gods were on our side ... and probably the ref too :)

It was only some bad refereeing, some miraculous defensive work from Hyppia and Westerveld and some dreadful finishing by The Arse that kept us in touch.

But, in the end, how could you dispute the greatness of those two goals by Owen.

Liverpool is well and truly back as a power in world football.

Might have been a different story had the hand ball been panalised. The commentators (at least the SBS ones) seemed in two minds about it. I thought hand ball, deliberate or not was a penalty????

Still, a bloody great result. Perseverance at it's best.

And I don't believe Grendel & I follow the same team :D

Well done Liverpool. We are back at the top of English Football once again. On top of beating Man Utd twice this season we have won the Worthington cup the FA cup and we should also win the UEFA Cup later this week as well as winning our last game of the season which means we will qualify for the Champion leagues next season. So watch out everybody the glory days of the 80's are back, GO REDS.

A couple of weeks ago I was talking to one of my Liverpool mates about the option of Liverpool selling Michael Owen. After 8 goals in 4 matches how stupid do I look now?.:D

Thats twice in a day that I agree with you - unbelievable

Big question now is - Will Houllier start Fowler in the UEFA Cup Final?? I think not, as Owen has been great and Heskey does a lot of hard work

Berger and McAllister must start in my view.

What is happening Jars?. Why is it when it comes to Premier League and NBA we agree, but when it comes to AFL you follow that bunch of no hope losers known as the Crows and I follow that classy and exciting team called Port?. :D

Back to the UEFA cup it looks like Fowler will start along with Owen and Heskey will start on the bench. Also McAllister must start he along with Owen have been Liverpools most imform players recentley. I still can't work out how Smicer got to start in the FA cup while McAllister had to sit on the bench.

As much as I like Houllier (ie: Robin to Wenger's Batman), Owen, Heskey, Gerard and one or two others.... the win, much like the rest of Liverpool's season was pure luck.

Not only should it have been a penalty, it should have been 1-0 with 11 v 10 men. That we didn't even get a corner suggests it will go down as possibly the worst game altering injustices in the history of the FA cup.

I think the complete lack of attacking flair that Liverpool have brought to games against Barca and Arsenal will eventually get found out - probably tonight against Alaves.

They may yet have another year of getting their balance right (ie: I admit they have bags of potential with someone to help Gerrard and a decent goalkeeper) because they look like missing the Champions League (ie: the real stuff)... again.

Not offence red fans - I'm just gutted....

1. 80 minute of complete domination - a million unlucky misses - a infamous Steve Dunn conpiracy beaten by 5 minutes of class by Owen and an excellent through ball from Gerard.
2. Out on an 79th minute away goal in the 1/4s of the Champions league - Henry the villian from the missing the put away 3-1 opportunity at Highbury
3. Beaten last year on penalties last year in the UEFA CUp final...
4. Beaten by Giggs goal of the century in the 99 FA cup semi
5. Beaten by 1 point (because Spurs were their usual gutless selves) on the last day of the 99 premiership
6. And lets not forget the BS vilification endured by Viera by the refs and opposing players... Roy Keane each your heart out
7. SHUT UP SHINNER I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!!!!! ARRGGGGHHHH

Well, at least the Bombers are dominating in classic early-mid 80's style.

Dutchy, commiserations mate. I think BSA summed it up pretty well when he said the best side didn't win. That's probably what sh1ts me the most about soccer.

P.S what makes you think the Reds will miss a CL spot?

P.P.S who decides how many CL spots a country gets? UEFA? Based on what?

I agree Arsenal were the better side. But I guess that's what sometimes happens in cup competitions. The premiership rewards the better teams.

However, I don't agree that it just happens in soccer. It also happens Australian football.

Same Old's, I haven't seen many games of Aussie rules where a team can dominate the way Arsenal did (or indeed Australia did that world cup qualifier) and still lose. You don't win games of footy by playing for 10 minutes after the opposition have dominated the other 110.

You win soccer matches by scoring goals not by dominating most of the match. Liverpool took it's chances Arsenal didn't, bad luck. Arsenal should be used to coming second anyway because thats all they seem to do.

Hey Carb, I follow the Reds, so it didn't bother me at all :), but at the end of the day Arsenal were pretty stiff, particularly considering the penalty that wasn't incident.

What I was getting at I suppose is that what I don't like about soccer is that you can dominate for long periods without getting on the scoreboard, due to bad luck or whatever, and then get beaten by a bit of good luck to the other side. I feel that games deserve to be won by the side that's played the best for the longest, which is usually what happens in AR.

Dave,

the number of CL spots are determined by a countries success in European club football over a 5 year period.
At the moment Spain, Italy & Germany get 4 whilst England & France get 3.It would seem that England will displace Germany in all probability for the season after next so that next season the 4th placed English side will get in.
Liverpool have to play Charlton tommorow (Saturday) away & if they don't when then Leeds can beat them for the last spot by winning their last game.I can't remember who they've got but I'm pretty sure that it's an easier game than Liverpool's, plus the Liverpool players must be knackered.

Thanks Dipper - sorry Dave - haven't logged in for a while. Forget Liverpool and Leeds - we want the genuine underdog IPSWICH to grab that last Champion's League spot!

Incidently, what Dipper said is correct but the missing link is that yes I believe it is the UEFA that makes the call.

As much as I enjoyed the UEFA final it just goes to show what a lucky, jammy, BS team the Reds have been this year. Worthington - extra time to put away a 1st division club; FA - murdered all day and beneficiaries of the worst decision of all time; UEFA - end of extra time off an own goal to beat a v.mediocre Spanish team.

Hopefully they'll miss the Champions cos they're are going to win the league next year and I'm already sick of them....

You're a hard man Dutch ;) After being labelled boring I thought the Reds played some great football against Alaves - how can you say they're mediocre after last season?

Yes, the winning goal was lucky, but, unlike the FA cup, you can't say Liverpool were underserving victors. They could have scored 3 or 4 more times, but then so could have Alaves. Great to see a soccer match in which there was quite a lot of scoring! And some "attacking flair" :D

Just a pity they dropped 2 points against Chelsea!!
